### Main duties of the job

The Microbiology Department at UHS is excited to advertise an opportunity for a Biomedical Support Worker with a strong background in teamwork, time management and attention to detail skills.

The department processes over 1,000,000 specimens per year. We employ almost 100 staff and provide a comprehensive 7 day service covering bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, serology and parasitology and molecular testing.

We are IBMS accredited for pre-registration training and specialist training in medical microbiology, virology and infectious science.

You would rotate through sections of the laboratory, and be responsible for training others when you have gained competencies in those sections.

The successful candidate will work core hours. Weekends and bank holidays are also worked on a rotation.

Candidates will work core hours with weekend and bank holiday working on rotation.

This role involves handling patient samples including bodily fluids & swabs.

Key roles and responsibilities:

- Answering telephone enquiries

- Basic sample processing

- Manual handling and Health & Safety

- Use of IT systems

- Teamwork and training other staff
