### Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to further develop their skills as a Higher-Level Biomedical Support Worker within the Transplant and Cellular Immunology Laboratory, based in the Centre for Laboratory Medicine at Leedss St Jamess Hospital. Working as part of a team, you will be expected to perform a wide range of tasks in support of the Biomedical and Clinical Scientist workforce.

### Main duties of the job

Working primarily in the Transplant Immunology Sample Reception section, you will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute towards the provision of an accurate and timely service for patients across the Yorkshire region. The post holder will be responsible for assessing all samples when they arrive in the laboratory to determine an appropriate testing strategy, followed by accurately recording all samples using our in-house laboratory information management systems (LIMS). The post-holder will also routinely produce in-house reagents, conduct stock and rota monitoring and equipment maintenance, prepare blood and tissue samples for analysis and perform DNA extraction using both manual and automated techniques. Basic scientific and laboratory skills are therefore essential.

The post-holder will work closely with a range of colleagues including other Biomedical Support workers, Biomedical and Clinical Scientists and medical professionals. What you will bring to the role

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate they are qualified to A-level (or equivalent) standard, preferably in science-based subjects, and will have previous experience of working in a laboratory. Core laboratory skills including pipetting, the use of basic equipment and awareness of laboratory health and safety practices are required. Good attention to detail and the ability to work independently as well as in a small team are essential, as are basic computer skills, including the use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
