You will become part of a team of 60+ people in a busy department comprising of Rapid Response, routine, enzyme, metabolic &  newborn screening laboratories which provide specialised biochemical diagnostic & monitoring services to patients both within the hospital and external users worldwide.   The department is well equipped and covers a wide range of analytical techniques & instrumentation including Tandem MS, GC-MS, HPLC/UHPLC, Vitros, Liaison, IDS and ICP-MS. Previous experience of working within paediatric laboratory medicine would be advantageous. This is a post within Rapid Response Laboratory and the successful candidate will be required to participate in the extended day and out-of-hours shift service. Core working hours are 08.00 to 20.00, which are covered by 3 shifts, 8am – 4.30pm, 9am – 5.30pm and 11.30am – 8pm.Participation in the rostered night shift (8pm to 8am) is mandatory and immediate. Weekend shifts are covered as Bank duties and participation is encouraged. Applicants must hold current HCPC registration. ### Main duties of the job - Undertake laboratory techniques in line with department standard operating procedure - To carry out all laboratory investigations to a high standard of technical excellence - To be able to work independently within their areas of knowledge and expertise - To authorise and report results of investigations, to interpret results to assist diagnosis - To ensure that all results are reported within agreed turn- around times - To take responsibility for the internal quality control and the external quality assessment schemes for designated tests - To assist in the management of the departmental quality systems as directed by the laboratory manager and quality manager - To plan and take responsibility for the efficient and effective organisation of work - Supervises and undertakes the technical work - To keep a check of stocks, reagents and consumables and to order supplies as appropriate ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities The full job description provides an overview of the key tasks and responsibilities of the role, and the person specification outlines the qualifications, skills, experience and knowledge required.
