With state-of-the-art facilities, you can advance your career in Histopathology.  As the largest Cellular Pathology department in the country, we are looking for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists to join our diverse teams across our Oxford Road Campus and Wythenshawe sites, where you’ll have the opportunity to work cross-site, offering exposure to specialist training.

Our laboratories have implemented Sakura SMART automation with the Tissue-Tek AutoTEC A120 automated embedding systems in use and the Tissue-Tek Xpress X120,  installed and finalising validation in late 2025. This will ensure that we’re at the forefront of investing in new technologies to deliver and improve patient care. The service has an extensive immunohistochemistry repertoire, including prognostic markers in Lymphoma, Lung and Breast Cancer supported by Biomedical Scientist led scoring for breast markers, including DDISH and PDL1 for triple negative breast cancer.

The departments are also working towards full implementation of digital pathology to support the Greater Manchester Strategy for Digital Pathology, with clinical reporting from digital images increasing since our go-live in July 2025.

Working pattern Monday-Friday 7am-7pm and Sunday 8am-4pm on a rotational basis.

As a  Biomedical Scientist, you’ll be experienced and operating as a Biomedical Scientist within Histopathology, in line with ISO 15189 standards and you’ll be rotated across the department, providing scientific services to patients and customers to aid pathological diagnosis.

You’ll work with the  senior team members and  support with the management of documentation, and general overall performance.

You’ll also play a role in the training and development of scientific staff.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge and experience of Quality Management Systems in pathology
- Hospital laboratory experience in Histopathology

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- IBMS accredited Biomedical Sciences degree (or other degree accredited with IBMS)
- Current HCPC registration
- Evidence of CPD

**Desirable**

- Working towards IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology

### Skills and Abilities

**Essential**

- Ability to prioritise workload to meet clinical demands

**Desirable**

- Demonstrates leadership skills

### Training and Experience
