The individual will be mainly based on the on the Derby site but may also be expected to work on the Queens Hospital Burton site depending on service needs. Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory experience is essential for this role. Candidates must have completed an IBMS Accredited degree or have undertaken supplementary education/top-up modules to meet HCPC Standards of Proficiency for biomedical scientists. Please note that this is not a trainee post and only candidates who are HCPC registered or candidates who have applied to the HCPC and are awaiting HCPC registration will be considered for the post. Full training will be supported in this post. All candidates will be required to participate in the 24/7 shift system once appropriate training and competencies have been completed. ### Main duties of the job The Royal Derby Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories are well equipped and currently include tracked Sysmex FBC analysers, Starrsed ESR, Sysmex coagulation, Beckman Coulter Flow Cytometry, Biorad Variant and Biorad HbA1c analysers and Biorad IH1000's in Blood Bank. The successful candidate will be expected: - To undertake specialist clinical technical work for any given area within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections of the laboratory service. - To assist senior staff within the departments maintain and develop the service in line with departmental objectives. - To assist with the training, instruction and supervision of trainee BMSs, APs and MLAs within the department. - To help maintain our full UKAS accreditation (ISO 15189) the successful candidate will be involved in service development including verification of equipment, auditing, and reviewing of documents. - To participate in 24/7 shift systems Closing date of applications: 08th September 2026 Interview date: 22nd September 2026 ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities Please see attached Job description and Person Specification.
