An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Clinical Biochemistry Department of our ISO15189:2022 accredited laboratory at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. We provide diagnostic and monitoring services to patients across a wide geographical area and support our acute services across both the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole General Hospital within the Trust.

We are a supportive Trust committed to staff development, offering training and ongoing professional development opportunities.

The One Dorset Pathology service unites Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital, and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals to deliver a high-quality, efficient, and consistent service. It is part of the national ‘S6’ pathology network, alongside Hampshire Hospitals, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Salisbury, and Southampton.

This role requires HCPC Registration.

Base location - Royal Bournemouth Hospital but you will be required to work across site.

Rota: You will be required to be involved in the out of hours rota

Interview date  - Week commencing 10th August 2026

### Main duties of the job

### The successful applicant will:

- Be required to act in a scientific role in the analysis of blood, body fluids, tissues and cells using specialised laboratory equipment to determine the presence or absence of disease, enabling diagnosis and also to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
- Responsible for delegated tasks, involved in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of a clinical pathology service that enables high standards of patient care.
- Assist in the teaching and development of  trainee staff and support workers.
- Expected to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in Biochemistry as part of their continuing professional development (CPD).

## Person Specification

### Skills

**Essential**

- Practical skills associated with Good Laboratory Practice.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic computer skills
- Knowledge of common IT software
- Handling biological specimens
- Able to train others

**Desirable**

- Familiarity with Quality Management Software
- Familiarity with Winpath software

### Experience

**Essential**

- Previous experience working in Clinical Biochemistry
- Current experience within an NHS UKAS accredited laboratory

**Desirable**

- Experience in equipment validation and implementation

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Health Professions Council (HCPC) for Registration
- Honours degree or equivalent in a biological science which is acceptable by Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)
- Completion of IBMS Registration Portfolio

**Desirable**

- Working towards IBMS Specialist Portfolio

### Other requirements

**Essential**

- Be able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role
- Willing and able to relocate for the role
