SYB Pathology aims to provide the best possible service for patients and clinicians, improving health outcomes, driving research and innovation, delivering healthcare efficiencies, and ensuring a sustainable workforce, providing job satisfaction and career progression opportunities for all staff. ### Main duties of the job The post holder will act as an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist providing scientific services to patients as an aid to clinical diagnosis. The successful candidate will be required and undertake a wide range of complex analytical procedures, performing a range of manual, semi-automated and automated tests using scientific knowledge and experience to comment upon and validate results in line with ISO 15189. Suitable candidates will require Chemistry experience and be nearing completion of their registration portfolio and ideally have experience of working out of hours. Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. Please note the SYBP Pathology network includes Northern General Hospital and Royal Hallamshire Hospital for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Barnsley NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw District General Hospital at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals. ### Applicant requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration. The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions. ## Person Specification ### Experience **Essential** - Experience with a range of laboratory techniques (Band 5&6) - Detailed understanding of job content (Band 6) - Ability to work with other colleagues to improve and develop working practices (Band 6) - Discipline specific NHS experience in a UKAS accredited laboratory (Microbiology/Virology/Histopathology/ Bood sciences * laboratory) (Band 6) - Multi – disciplinary awareness (Band 6) - Experience with a wide range of laboratory techniques in use across Blood sciences (Band 6) - Experience working within a laboratory providing local, regional or national tertiary reference facilities (Band 6) - Experience in the implementation of new methodologies and /or equipment (Band 6) - Experience with the UKAS accreditation process (Band 6) - Experience in demonstrating leadership qualities (Band 6) **Desirable** - Discipline specific NHS laboratory experience (Band 5) - Multi – disciplinary awareness (Band 5) - Experience in demonstrating leadership qualities (Band 5) ### Personal Qualities **Essential** - Understand and follow clear instructions.
