An exciting opportunity has become available for a Behaviour Support Worker to work within the Wrexham Children’s Learning Disability service and provide intensive interventions for children with learning disability who use behaviours of concern to communicate their needs.

The service works to support the healthcare needs of children and young people with learning disabilities aged 0-18 years and their families and carers. The team consists of learning disability and paediatric nurses, support workers and clinical psychologists and works closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team of paediatricians, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and dietitians.

### Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of a Learning Disability Nurse and Consultant Clinical Psychologist, you will work alongside the multi-disciplinary team supporting one child intensively for up to two hours a day in the family home and local community. The successful candidate will implement the psychologically-informed positive behaviour support plan and will have skills in establishing good rapport, enabling accessible communication, supporting and encouraging engagement in meaningful activity and nurturing independence skills. The aim is to enable a capable environment and good quality of life to live a life like any other.

The successful candidate will have in-house training on positive behaviour support and human rights-based approaches and will be well supported to deliver the intensive intervention.

- Must be capable of working individually and as part of a team, and be willing to adopt and share new ideas. Must be calm in a crisis and capable of motivating and inspiring others

### Values

**Essential**

- Understand issues relating to people with learning disabilities such as the principles of ordinary living and care in the community. An understanding of the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis, Positive Behaviour Support and Active Support Model.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Sufficient experience of directly supporting people who have a learning disability and behaviour that challenges services.

### Aptitude and Abilities

**Essential**

- Must be capable of Communicating effectively both orally and in writing and have PC skills. Must be competent in providing direct personal care to people with learning disabilities and be able to transfer skills and knowledge to others. Must be able to collect observational data for assessment purposes and transfer to spread sheets

**Desirable**

- Ability to speak Welsh

### Qualifications and/or Knowledge

**Essential**

- NVQ/QCF Level 3 Promoting Independence or equivalent
- PGC in Applied Behaviour Analysis or BTECH level 3 in positive behaviour support
