To participate in and develop out dispensing services Trustwide, to meet the needs of the users of the service and the required standards of professional and legislative practice.

To provide the professional support and management of the pharmacy out patient team.

To oversee the pharmacy management of all clinical trials Trustwide.

### Main duties of the job

- Ø  Work within agreed Trust and departmental policies and procedures and to accepted standards of practice. Ø  Work in other areas and on other sites in the Trust to cover for service needs. Ø  Undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade. Ø  Ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity. Ø  Comply with the Code of Ethics of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Ø  Treat patients and customers with dignity and courtesy. Ø  Ensure that medicines do not fall into unauthorised hands. Ø  Have responsibility for the health, safety and welfare for self and others and to comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety regulations, including COSHH. Ø  Promote Equal Opportunities and to comply with the requirements of the legislation and the Trust’s policies. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To work closely with, and deputise for, the Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Operational and Patient Services (DCP) in their absence.
- To work closely with other senior pharmacy staff sharing good practice and providing out-patient dispensary cover and advice during senior out-patient team absences.
- To work on both sites.
- To participate in, manage and develop in-patient dispensing services across the Trust in line with the pharmacy and Trust strategy.
- To have responsibility for the approval of leave to ensure sufficient staffing to maintain all pharmacy services, referring to the DCP for support and advice as required.
- To manage the on-call (out of hours) pharmacy service.
- To provide training for all current and potential on-call pharmacists compiling, and regularly reviewing, training programmes and resources to ensure a consistent, high quality service.
- To review current practices for on-call and the out of hours provision of medicines and pharmaceutical advice, investigate and use novel approaches, including technology as appropriate, to improve the service.
- To manage the on-call rota, taking the main responsibility for covering planned and unplanned absences, for succession planning and for regular review of the calls received and the service provided, liaising with stores and distribution to regularly review contents of emergency drug cupboards.
- To chair regular meetings of the on-call team to highlight and address any training or quality issues.
- To undertake appraisal of pharmacy staff as required and ensure that appraisals for the in-patient team take place at the appropriate times and to the desired standard.

### General

**Essential**

- BTEC / NVQ Level 3 Certified Pharmacy Technician. Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) Certificate.
- Post qualification hospital experience.  Experience in supervision of staff. Computer literate for dispensing and stock keeping purposes. Staff training. Patient/carer counselling Multidisciplinary team work.
- Good interpersonal skills Good communication skills – verbal and written. Ability to meet objectives and targets. Ability to motivate self and others. Ability to organise own workload and that of others. Good time management. Ability to work under pressure and prioritise work. Problem solving skills. Ability to work accurately with attention to detail. Competent in all areas of dispensing practice. Ability to identify and solve problems. Proven organisational skills, self and others. **Desirable**

- Experience with the CMM pharmacy computer system.  Knowledge and experience of appraisal. Knowledge of NVQ process Dispensing/supply of clinical trials and GCP Understanding of and participation in data collection for KPIs and audit.
