### Job overview

Responsible for providing Specialist Fire Safety advice to the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (RFL NHS FT) on all Fire Safety matters relating to people and premises.

Working as part of the Estates department, you will ensure compliance with relevant Legislation, Regulations, Codes of Practice, Health Technical Memorandum, Guidance, Firecode and that the RFL NHS FT Fire Safety Policy is implemented and effective. This will in turn ensure a safe and secure environment for our patients, staff, and visitors.

Developing and delivering an extensive programme of general and specialist fire safety training to a wide audience base in order to achieve compliance with the above and KPIs determined by the Trust.

Providing specialist fire safety advice to capital project planning, design, construction and commissioning teams.

The Trust are progressing a major multi-year programme of capital development inclusive of Backlog Maintenance and new Capital Project Schemes.

### Main duties of the job

This role will cover both Barnet & Chase Farm Hospitals. Post Holder must be comfortable travelling to both sites as a mandatory requirement.

The primary duties of this role include, but are not limited to:

- Provide specialist expert advice based on knowledge and experience of active and passive fire systems
- Manage and oversee an effective fire risk assessment programme including the process for the remedy and mitigation of defects
- Assess and oversee the delivery of mandatory fire safety training, including fire warden, general induction, refresher, and evacuation training for staff around the Trust
- Oversee the installation, witnessing, commissioning and handover of fire systems as appropriate as the Trusts delegated informed client and asset owner for fire safety systems
- Chair meetings with contractors and monitor the performance and compliance of contracts with specialist providers
- Liaise with key stakeholders on a day-to-day basis on matters pertaining to fire safety
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary fire drills and exercises across the Trust estate
- Ensure effective PPM planning and compliance monitoring is in place for all fire safety assets and systems
- Audit of hot works, fire alarm alteration and penetration permit to work systems
- Preparing regular routine status reports on all matters relating to fire safety.
- This is an on-site operational role -No working from home or hybrid work offered

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Comprehensive up-to-date knowledge of all legislation, standards and best practice in fire safety relevant to this role
- Previous experience withing the Fire and Rescue Service, and/or another enforcing body
- A technical background in either Mechanical, Electrical or Building Fabric Maintenance
- Extensive experience of preparing and delivering fire training
- Extensive experience of Fire Safety risk assessment procedures
- Knowledge of Building Regulations as applicable to fire safety

**Desirable**

- Calibration and maintenance of fire safety active and passive devices

### Skills and aptitudes

- Computer literate (Microsoft Office), Smart phone, tablet, desktop PC
- A comprehensive knowledge of building/engineering services relevant to fire safety

- Technical vocational training qualifications relevant to Fire Safety  NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate
- Membership of professional institutes relevant to fire safety, ie the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE), the institute of fire safety managers (IFSM),
- Vocational/ technical qualification in the inspection of compartmentation and fire stopping
- Vocational/ technical qualification in the inspection of fire doors
- Specialist training in fire safety engineering in new & refurbishment constructions
- Accredited Fire Risk Assessment Qualification
