The Band 7 Sonographer position at the Barnet, Chase Farm Hospital and peripheral sites is a dynamic and multifaceted role within the Imaging Department. This role requires a skilled professional capable of performing a diverse range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations across various specialties including obstetrics, gynaecology, abdominal, paediatrics, and small parts imaging. The position is key to providing accurate diagnostics, thereby directly impacting patient care and treatment outcomes. The role calls for a balance of technical proficiency, patient interaction, and an ongoing commitment to professional development.

### Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be regarded as Reporting Sonographers in the Imaging Department and as such will fulfil the requirements of their role within the ultrasound team, being able to demonstrate highly specialised knowledge and expertise in all aspects of the diagnostic ultrasound service. Perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound scans that include obstetrics, gynaecology, general abdominal, paediatrics, and small parts.

Produce a high standard of accuracy and quality of diagnostic ultrasound imaging with application of a high level of theoretical, practical and technical knowledge while demonstrating high standards of care for best patient management to clinicians. Independently report on all performed ultrasound examinations without clinical input.

The responsibilities will include training and teaching trainee Sonographers and assistant staff in both the delivery of the service and their individual development needs in a motivational manner.

Assist in and manage the day to day workflow, ensuring all data inputs are recorded for both patient record integrity and statistical evaluation purposes following departmental protocol.

Encourage the highest professional and technical standards in all staff, using personal example and constructive supervision. Demonstrate partnership in professional development issues, maintaining a high level of technical and theoretical skills through personal CPD.

**Essential**

- Supportive to the department & management procedures & policies agreed by senior staff
- Understanding of CPD with in Ultrasound with the CPD Portfolio and track record
- Commitment to further own knowledge and responsibility.
- Understanding of Clinical Audit and Governance within Radiolog

### Experience

**Essential**

- post-qualification experience in a wide variety of ultrasound techniques
- Record keeping and the use of administrative systems in supporting management of the service

**Desirable**

- Experience in managing own workload, junior staff and change

### Skills and aptitudes

**Essential**

- A comprehensive knowledge of a range of current ultrasound techniques and future developments applied to a wide range of patients.
- Experience of information systems( RIS & PACS)
- Ability to organize and delegate work accordingly
- Ability to prioritise and organize demands for services in the ultrasound rooms on a day-to-day basis.
- Ability to teach

- DCR (R) or BSc Radiography Professional status or Medical/Paramedical 1st Degree
- Post graduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound at Masters level (PgDip) or DMU
- HPC Registration
