Camden Pain Service

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Camden Pain Service (CPS) which serves patients who have a long-term pain condition e.g. chronic lower back pain, chronic widespread pain, fibromyalgia.

Although having previous experience of working in pain management services would be advantageous for this post, we would welcome applications from Clinical Psychology Trainee's completing their final year of the doctorate programme in September 2026, particularly if they have had specialist clinical health placements.

- You’ll be working under the supervision of a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist to deliver psychological assessment and intervention (1:1 and group pain management programmes based on CBT/ACT/CFT) for this cohort of patients. You’ll also be supporting the wider multidisciplinary team and liaising with relevant external community services e.g. Talking Therapies, MSK services, community mental health teams.

- Ability to form good working relationships with others in a multidisciplinary setting, with evidence of ability to communicate in a way that is understood by professionals without any psychological training.
- Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of multimedia materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice
- Interest in and ability to contribute to service development.
- Commitment to the strategic aims of the trust and the UCL partners academic health sciences partnership.
- Ability to demonstrate using psychological skills and knowledge in medical settings

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working within a Pain Management Service or other long-term health condition services, providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients (this could include Trainee Clinical Psychologist Placements in a Health Psychology/Hospital setting)
- Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
- Experience in audit and/or research methods

**Desirable**

- Experienced in delivering group interventions

### Skills and aptitudes

**Essential**

- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Knowledge of theoretical models and psychological interventions relevant to the needs of patients with chronic pain conditions and PTSD and those experiencing psychological difficulties secondary to their health condition.
- Well - developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. This would involve using easy to understand language to convey psychological ideas and assumptions
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and quantitative data analysis as practiced within the field of psychology
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks in relation to the patient group
- Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC
- High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.

**Desirable**

- Skilled in joint work with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses and medical doctors

- You will need to evidence post-graduate doctoral level training in counselling or clinical psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society (or due to complete in Sept 2026), or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence AND hold HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist (or demonstrate evidence of working towards registration)
