### Job overview

This is a permanent Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) post within the Chronic Pain Outpatient Service.

You will function as an autonomous practitioner, providing advanced specialist assessment, clinical decision-making and management for patients referred to the Chronic Pain Management Service.

The CNS will work with a high degree of professional autonomy within agreed protocols and scope of practice, exercising independent judgement in the management of patients and escalating highly complex cases appropriately to the Lead Clinician.

### Main duties of the job

You will independently manage a defined caseload of patients with complex and persistent pain conditions, deliver nurse-led clinics, and contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of chronic pain pathways. They will act as a clinical expert resource within the multidisciplinary team and contribute to service improvement, audit, education and quality initiatives across the service.

### Skills/ Abilities

**Desirable**

- - Experience presenting at MDT meetings or professional forums

### Experience/ Knowledge

**Essential**

- - Proven recent experience managing patients with chronic pain or complex long-term conditions
- - Experience supervising or mentoring Band 5/6 staff or students.

**Desirable**

- - Experience deputising for senior clinicians or team leads

### Education/ Qualifications

**Essential**

- - Registered General Nurse (RGN), Level 1.
- - Significant post-registration experience including substantial experience at Band 6 level or equivalent specialist role.
- - Post-registration qualification in Chronic Pain, Pain

**Desirable**

- - Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (V300) or willingness to undertake.
