## Job Content

### Job overview

Working within the specialist Neurology Practitioner service at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, you will provide high-quality specialist clinical care across inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will lead and support practitioner-led clinics, managing a complex dual-specialty caseload across Epilepsy and Parkinson's Disease, and acting as an expert clinical resource for colleagues across the trust and wider health and care system.

We are looking for a registered professional with a genuine interest in neurology specialist practice who is motivated to develop their own skills, support colleagues, and contribute to a service that is actively building its reach and impact. This is a post with real scope for professional growth within a small, dynamic team.

### Main duties of the job

You will manage a complex caseload spanning both Epilepsy and Parkinson's Disease, working across inpatient and outpatient settings. Clinical responsibilities include seizure management, anti-seizure medication titration, Parkinson's medication optimisation including dopaminergic therapies, SUDEP risk assessment, DVLA counselling, advance care planning, and mental health and psychosocial screening integrated into both pathways.

You will lead and support practitioner-led clinics, contribute to ward-based neurology care, and act as a specialist resource for colleagues across the division.

We are seeking a registered professional (HCPC or NMC) with relevant post-registration experience and a grounding in Epilepsy and/or Parkinson's Disease. Strong communication skills, a commitment to developing practice, and the ability to work autonomously are essential. A non-medical prescribing qualification and post-registration qualification in either specialty is desirable but not essential.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Core hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, with potential flexibility available; full details can be discussed at interview. You will hold responsibility for a complex dual-specialty caseload, providing specialist input across inpatient wards and outpatient clinics. Key responsibilities include implementing safety tools such as SUDEP and Seizure Safety Checklists and Parkinson's Time Critical Medication protocols, benchmarking performance against NASH and the National Parkinson's Audit, and contributing to the development of standardised pathways between secondary, community, primary, and tertiary care. You will work closely with Consultant Neurologists, the Lead Neurology Practitioner, and multidisciplinary teams across the Medicine Division, as well as maintaining relationships with tertiary neurology centres and community partners. There is genuine scope to influence the shape of both services at a local and regional level, and to contribute meaningfully to service development as the team grows.
