### Job summary

Are you interested in Respiratory Physiotherapy? This exciting rotational opportunity is in the Respiratory Team as part of University Hospitals Birmingham. The specialities at the trust include acute Non-Invasive Ventilation & Respiratory Support Units, regional Cystic Fibrosis centre, Home Mechanical Ventilation service including Paediatric Transition and Neuromuscular service, the Birmingham Regional Severe Asthma Service, Critical Care and Surgery. As a member of the Respiratory Team as whole you will have opportunities to work in as part of the 7-day service at the trust covering all specialities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative physiotherapist with good clinical skills and experience; excellent team working and time management skills. You will work alongside specialist physiotherapists, providing respiratory care and rehabilitation to patients whilst working closely with the multi-professional team. You will have the opportunity to supervise Physiotherapy students, junior Physiotherapists and Therapy Support Workers. Research and CPD opportunities are encouraged.

This rotational role is based at Birmingham Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals, however, as the Trust is a multi-site organisation you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites and may need to change your normal place of work, either temporarily or on a permanent basis due to development or reorganisation of Trust services.

### Main duties of the job

Applicants will be required to participate in the respiratory overnight on-call system and 7 day working rota within the Respiratory Therapy teams treating both adult and paediatric patients including the physiotherapists led NIV service.

To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records.

To assist with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

To assist with the supervision, education and co-ordination of physiotherapy assistants, physiotherapy technical instructors and junior physiotherapists.

There is one permanent post and one 12 month fixed term/secondment available.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Demonstrates clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients within this speciality / within the NHS with experience of elderly and frail elderly, respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
- *Experience of working on a physiotherapy on-call service.
- *Experience of working with student physiotherapists and assistants.
- *An ability to analyse clinical and non-clinical complex facts and situations, which require the interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
- *An ability to plan, organise, formulate and adjust complex plans.
- *An ability to supervise and delegate work to physiotherapists, assistants and students.

**Desirable**

- *It is desirable that the candidate will have had some experience within speciality area.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- *Diploma / degree in Physiotherapy.
- *Registered with Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC).
- *A levels or equivalent qualification.
- *Good standard of general education including GCSE Maths and English grade C and above.
- *Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality.

**Desirable**

- *Member of specialist interest group.
- *Attendance at Clinical Educators course.
