Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Dietetics Team at Whipps Cross Hospital as a Band 6 Dietitian. This is a rotational post joining three other band 6 dietitians, with rotations covering gastroenterology, oncology and critical care (including both inpatient and outpatient oncology caseloads), orthopaedics, and acute stroke.

We are looking forward to welcoming a motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to our Nutrition and Dietetic team, which consists of ten dietitians and two dietetic support workers. The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation of clinical dietetic skills and will have the opportunity to further develop these within a busy, well supported acute setting.

Barts Health is committed to high quality, work‑based education and training to support the development of both clinical and leadership skills. Staff benefit from a robust supervision structure, regular CPD opportunities, and encouragement to participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and service delivery.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a high‑quality dietetic service to patients at Whipps Cross Hospital, completing comprehensive nutritional assessments and developing evidence‑based treatment and monitoring plans across specialist clinical areas in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT)
  • Independently manage a caseload of patients and provide cross‑cover support to colleagues as required
  • Provide expertise in nutrition and dietetics within dedicated MDTs, contributing to clinical discussions, attending relevant meetings, delivering teaching to healthcare professionals and supporting the development of resources, policies and clinical guidelines
  • Line manage and provide clinical supervision and support to junior dietitians and dietetic support workers
  • Engage in audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives as relevant to the role
  • Maintain up‑to‑date, evidence‑based practice through regular CPD activities and reflective learning
  • Support the dietetics and wider therapies team with non-clinical duties as required to support smooth service delivery
  • This is a rotational post based at Whipps Cross Hospital; rotations include elements of clinical specialty alongside general medical and surgical wards. Specialties include: gastroenterology, oncology and critical care, orthopaedics and acute stroke. Postholders rotate every 9-12 months. Rotations are at the discretion of the clinical lead dietitian and senior dietetics team.
