Due to an ever-increasing demand for our services, Bromley Healthcare's Children's SLT Service is continuing to expand our fantastic and supportive team.

### Main duties of the job

- We are currently developing a Universal, Targeted Specialist model in mainstream schools, delivering EHCP intervention in mainstream schools, as well as expanding our buy-in service in mainstream schools, special schools and provisions.

Day-to-day, you will provide assessment and therapy services to a mixed paediatric caseload with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), as well as report writing and opportunities for training parents/carers and those working with children with SLCN. Special school/provision work would involve working with children with a variety of severe, additional and complex needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Difficulties, Developmental Language Disorder and Speech Disorders. We always ask for your preferences of where you would like to work any time we are re-timetabling.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical- Patient/Client Care

- To develop and provide universal, targeted and specialist speech and language therapy services to patients with speech , language and communication needs
- To make a differential diagnosis based on evidence from assessment, leading to decisions about intervention/treatment.
- To communicate complex condition related information, from assessment to patients/clients, carers, families and members of the multi disciplinary team/other professions.
- To maintain sensitivity at all times to the emotional needs of patients/clients and their carers, in particular when imparting potentially distressing information regarding the nature of he patient/client’s difficulties and implications of the same.
- To negotiate and work closely with patients/clients, carers, families, and other professionals, agreeing decision- making and prioritisation relevant to the patient/client’s management, devising agreed care plans based on best practice, seeking advice from manager/supervisor for more complex cases.
- To initiate and provide a variety of treatment options according to patients needs, including the use of interpreters as appropriate.
- To use forms of alternative and augmentative communication e.g. signing, symbols, speech synthesisers as indicated from assessment to maximise the client’s communication.
- To demonstrate empathy with clients, carers and families and colleagues, aiming to achieve effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.
- To adapt practice to meet individual patient/ client circumstances, including due regard for cultural and linguistic and gender differences.
- To form productive relationships with clients who may be under stress and/or have challenging communication difficulties.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Evidence of developing responsibility for clinic and caseload management.
- Experience of working with other professionals relevant to client groups.

- Appropriate experience to developing specialism.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Recognised speech & language therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
- successful completion of RCSLT newly qualified competencies
- Health Professions Council License to practice
- Registered member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

**Desirable**

- Membership of relevant CEN
- Evidence of appropriate external and internal training as appropriate to developing specialism.

### Specific Skills

**Essential**

- Excellent interpersonal skills, including observation, listening and empathy.
- Well developed analytical skills with use of knowledge necessary for case load management, assessment and therapy relevant to client group e.g. prioritisation
- Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment diagnosis and treatment of clients/patients.
- Ability to transcribe speech phonetically.
- Skills in handling clients/ patients with disabilities.
- Ability to maintain intense concentration in all aspects of patient management for prolonged periods.
- Well-organised, reflective practitioner
