We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and passionate registered nurse to join our friendly team within the Cumberland Urgent Treatment Centre .

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

### Main duties of the job

- Having undertaken additional approved training and assessment as part of the role, the post holder will work as part of the assessment and treatment team as a Band 5 Nurse within agreed Trust guidelines and local policies and protocols for the best outcome of nursing care.
- To assist in the development and implementation of Directorate policy and nursing strategy and Band 5 Nurse competencies
- To act as resource and facilitator to educate and train other healthcare professionals as required.
- Will contribute positively to the development of the Urgent Treatment and Minor Injuries Service process under the leadership and guidance of the UTC/MIU Lead Emergency Practitioner and UTC/MIU Modern Matron.
- Applicants who do not have the relevant experience and competencies will be trained to obtain relevant qualifications or competencies as required.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Practice

- Works as a nurse, utilising specialist knowledge and decision-making skills and promoting clinical excellence and ensure an optimum standard of nursing care is delivered from admission to discharge in a timely manner.
- To carry out safe effective triage and clinical assessment within the Band 5 competencies.
- To promote, maintain and monitor the best possible standards of care within the resources available, works in line with Trust and Department policies and within the framework of their governing body’s Professional Code of Conduct.
- To administer medicines under Patient Group Directives in line with trust policy.
- To request and interpret appropriate laboratory tests as required as part of ongoing patient care.
- Identifies and manages child protection issues and raises awareness with medical and nursing staff.
- Identifies and manages issues related to mental health and vulnerable adults, raising awareness with medical, AHP and nursing staff.
- Work in areas subjected to frequent highly unpleasant conditions such as odours/body fluids and patients showing aggression.
- Liaises with appropriate agencies and members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure ongoing care is managed for ‘at risk’ patients on leaving the emergency department and/or hospital.
- To undertake the use of moderate physical effort in controlled restraint of patients undergoing procedures with learning disabilities, the manoeuvring of patients in confined spaces and patients presenting with decreased level of consciousness due to trauma, drugs, alcohol.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- NMC Registration.
- Diploma qualification in a healthcare related subject / or equivalent demonstrable experience.

**Desirable**

- Manchester Triage trained

- Good communication skills, written and verbal, with proven ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity, and effectiveness at all levels.
- Proven ability to prioritise workload.

**Desirable**

- Leadership and management skills.

### Knowledge & Experience

**Essential**

- Current proven knowledge of nursing and emergency care issues
- Demonstrable experience in acute care setting

**Desirable**

- Demonstrable experience/competency in form of professional portfolio.
- Demonstrable experience of acute hospital setting e.g. ICU/HDU experience.
