We are one of the largest liver centres in the world and many staff come to the Liver Unit because of that reputation.

We are currently recruiting for a substantive Band 5 Staff Nurse to work on our Liver Surgical Ward 726. The ward cares for a wide variety of patients with complex surgical liver conditions, including those undergoing liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery such as Whipple's, Pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD), Distal pancreatectomy, hemi-hepatectomy, cholecystectomy, biliary reconstruction, adrenalectomy and splenectomy. Daily patients are transferred from Intensive Care Unit (ITU), Enhanced Post -operative Care (EPOC) and Theatres.

We are looking for qualified staff with previous liver surgical experience, either as an HCA or management student, and thrive within a fast-paced environment with the ability to cope under pressure. Fundamental care is essential to our patients, and we take great pride in being able to look after this complex, yet extremely interesting patients to a high standard..

We receive support from our acute 'outreach' nurses and have several specialist nurses who assist with the care of these patients.

We are a dedicated team with the drive and resources to deliver high standards of care to all our patients. Good teamwork and communication are essential as we work with a mixture of specialist nursing teams, medics and therapists.

### Main duties of the job

The patients are at the heart of all we do on Ward 726.

Main Duties and Tasks

1. carry out tasks such as admitting and discharging, drug rounds ( oral/intravenous), undertaking comphensive assessment of patients nursing requirements.

2. Caring for high acuity and dependency patients who have been transferred from EPOC/ITU

3. Keep accurate, legible and timely documentation relating to all aspects of patient care and treatment.

4. Act as an advocate for patients

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- * Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months)
- * Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
- * Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice
- * Being an accountable professional
- * Promoting health and preventing ill health
- * Assessing needs and planning care
- * Providing and evaluating care
- * Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams -- including prioritisation and delegation skills
- * Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health
- * Improving safety and quality of care
- * Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy
- * Understanding / experience of the
- principles of Safeguarding and Mental
- Capacity
- * Awareness of Health and Safety issues.

**Desirable**

- * Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post graduate registered nurse.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- * Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e.
- ( Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health)
- * Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience
