### Job summary

Work in one of the biggest Critical Care units in the world, covering specialities such as Neuro, Trauma, Burns, Cardiac and Liver.

Use up to date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence changes and promote health and best practice. make person centred, evidence based judgements in partnership with others involved in the care process to ensure high quality care.

The applicant should have experience as a band 5 nurse.

### Main duties of the job

*Monitor patients progress, ensuring accurate records of all relevant observations and clinical assessments are kept and take appropriate action as indicated.

*Ensure patients receive high quality clinical care and a positive patient experience, having regard to their customs, beliefs and ethnicity.

*Act as advocate for patients within the areas, to ensure a patient focused approach to the delivery of care.

*Use up to date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence changes and promote health and best practice. The individual must make person centred, evidence based judgements in partnership with others involved in the care process to ensure high quality care.

*Be wholly accountable for his/her practice and maintaining their professional registration in line with the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives (current version).

*Be responsible for completing/ undertaking relevant nursing/ clinical procedures and practice underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

*Recognise and act to avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of patients.

*Undertake a range of physical observations appropriate to the individuals scope of practice using a range of equipment, recording, reporting and escalating findings and concerns.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting as a band 5.
- *Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
- * Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice
- *Being an accountable professional
- *Promoting health and preventing ill health
- *Assessing needs and planning care
- *Providing and evaluating care
- *Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams -- including prioritisation and delegation skills
- *Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health
- *Improving safety and quality of care
- *Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy
- *Understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity
- *Awareness of Health and Safety issues.

**Desirable**

- *Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post graduate registered nurse.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- *Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. ( Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health)
- *Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience

### Additional Criteria

**Essential**

- *Demonstrable communication and relationship management skills which include
- *Listening -- writing -- reading -- speaking in English with understanding of contemporaneous record keeping
- *Good IT skills ability to record information electronically
- *Competent in a range of clinical skills/ nursing procedures willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice require
- *Competent in managing the care of a group of patients / shift management (take charge of the practice setting in the absence of more senior staff) relevant to the practise setting.

- *Ability to work a varied shift pattern including nights / weekends unsocial hours where required
