### Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 5\\6 development Speech and Language Therapist to work as part of the multidisciplinary team at Ardenleigh Hospital, Birmingham. You will work collaboratively alongside colleagues from Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Nursing, Medical and Education services. This hospital provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for women and under 18\`s who present with mental health and communication needs. The successful post holder will work predominately in the Women\` service.

This  post  offers you the opportunity to develop the specialist skills required to become a Band 6 within the team. You will have access to a 12-month preceptorship training programme to support your continued development. Working as part of a supportive Speech and Language Therapy team, this post would suit an applicant who has a genuine interest in working with women and under 18’s and enjoys working in a dynamic environment.

We offer Monday to Friday working and flexible working requests are considered up to 37.5 hours.

A wide range of training opportunities relevant to the role will be be provide ensuring the successful candidate has the relevant skills work to within a mental health setting along with support from senior Speech and Language Therapists.

The successful candidate will initially enter a supportive probation period of six months. Flexible working options available.

Working with a high level of autonomy  the successful candidate will work on their own initiative, demonstrate a range of skills including effective communication with both clients and the wider staff team, express empathy, self-awareness, and crucial self-reflection skills and resilience. In addition, you will need to have good organisation and time management skills.

The role will be varied and include assessment, planning and implementing evidence-based practice, reviewing and evaluating therapy using therapy outcome measures, provide advice to other professionals regarding the management of clients with communication needs, modifying materials, attending and contributing to clinical team meetings, report writing and completing administrative tasks relevant to the role.

The successful candidate will initially enter a supportive probation period of six months, supported by the Professional Lead Speech and Language Therapist.

The post holder must have a Speech and Language degree qualification and be registered with the HCPC. Membership to the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist\`s is desirable.

**Essential**

- A recognised professional degree qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
- Relevant clinical working experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level (including placement experience)
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrates knowledge of the importance of triaging a caseload and prioritising service users based on clinical reasoning
- Knowledge and skill in providing SLT assessment and intervention relevant to the service users communication needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of the application of relevant SLT diagnostics, theoretical models, and approaches relevant to service users
- Demonstrates some developing knowledge of trauma and adverse childhood experiences in relation to communication needs
- Awareness of clinical governance and its relationship to clinical effectiveness and service user’s safety and service

**Desirable**

- Some clinical experience of working with clients who present with a mental health need
- Knowledge of assessment tools/means of assessment relevant to client group
- Demonstrates an understanding of how to manage distressed, aggressive or resistive service users and carers/families.
