### Job overview

The Production Laboratory is a support service that provides custom made dental appliances across a number of clinical services which include: Restorative, Paediatrics, Oncology/cleft Oral surgery.

We are a  busy service and can produce between 2,500 and 3 ,500 units of work across the Prosthetic, Orthodontic and Crown and bridges sections of the laboratory.

We support dental core trainees (DCT's) as well as registrars and Consultants.

We support Undergraduate dental students from year 3 to year 5.

The post holder will be  responsible for the design, planning, and construction of precision custom made, complete and partial removable appliances, over dentures,  immediate restoration appliances, training plates, and myofunctional splints.

The post holder will be able to produce a range of  full and partial prosthetic dental appliances from start to finish.

To have a good all round knowledge of appliance design and construction,  to be able to support the undergraduate dental students as well as the wider clinical team.

Will be responsible for organising their work load , will need to have good organisational skills, will need to be able to work autonomously as well as within the dental team. Have the ability to work under pressure and  within tight time frames.

Demonstrate good communication skills.

To be able to use IT systems such as Labtrac

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the provisions of the above technical services within the hospital.

- Plan, design and construct custom made removable prosthetic appliances using  semi adjustable  articulators.
- Evaluate the quality of the dental prescription and items supplied from the clinical areas are of sufficient quality to proceed with construction of appliance.
- Plan, coordinate and prioritise daily personal workload to meet laboratory deadlines and to meet service requirements, bringing any areas of concern to the attention of the laboratory manager.
- Provide emergency service and repairs for patients
- Demonstrate/discuss techniques with undergraduates, clinicians, dental nurses and visitors when required. Provide advice, when asked, on selection of materials and the correct and safe use of equipment within the laboratory
- Responsible for producing a high quality standard of work, as stated in the Laboratory Operational Guideline Procedures.
- Use the laboratory dedicated computer system to book finished appliances and deal with enquiries when required.
- Utilise various specialised pieces of machinery within the laboratory including compressed gases, ultraviolet lights, grit blasting, heating tanks and pressure forming equipment.
- Undertaking more complex work involving implant restorations and other highly complex work under supervision and further training.
- It will be necessary for the post holder to undertake any other duties commensurate with the post, within their technical skills and in agreement with the Laboratory Manager.

### Qualifications and CPD

**Essential**

- GDC Registration
- BSC/Btech Diploma in Dental Technology/or Equivalent
- Demonstrate Interest in Continuing Professional Development

### Experience and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Ability to construct a range full and partial dentures from start to finish
- Ability to construct vacuum formed appliances
- Knowledge of appliance design and construction

**Desirable**

- Computer Skills for IT and CadCam systems

### Communication and Organisational skills
