### Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital Trusts in England, serving the populations of Birmingham and Solihull. The Trust is composed of four main hospital sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEHB), Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital (HGS).

The clinical biochemistry department provides a 24/7 diagnostic and monitoring service for routine and urgent automated investigations. The Clinical Chemistry department is equipment with Abbott Alinity c and i series analysers and the Abbott a3600 track.

Specialist Chemistry provides a wide range of services to the Trust as well as other Hospital Trusts. Equipment includes IDS iSYS, Shimadzu HPLC and Sciex Tandem Mass Spectrometry analysers, with several tests measured including immunosuppressant's and steroids.

The Immunology department offer a wide range of tests that aid to diagnose, treat and manages disorders of the immune system in patients.

As one of the pre-specialist's biomedical scientists within the team, you will be trained and supported in the analysis, technical validation, interpretive decisions, and reporting of samples to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care.

The post holder will be required to undertake their responsibilities within any of the sections of the Department across UHB.

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our busy, friendly team and support our progressive department in providing high quality, timely and specialised services.

We are UKAS accredited to ISO 15189 2022 standards, MHRA approved and IBMS accredited for training.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience of working in a fast-paced department that is continually growing, and to expand and develop your existing knowledge and skills.

You must have a BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent with HCPC registration as a biomedical scientist.

The laboratory operates a 24/7 service, and after appropriate training, you will be expected to support the departmental shift system as required - including weekends. Shifts include Early (7:30-3:30pm), Day (9:00-5:00pm), Late 14:00-22:00pm) and Nights (21:45pm-7:45am).

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working in clinical laboratories.
- Experience of laboratory techniques and automation

**Desirable**

- Experience of dealing with suppliers, clinical and support staff, the public or customer care.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent academic achievement that is ratified by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)
- State registration with Health Professions Council (HPC)
- Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HPC guidelines.

**Desirable**

- Working towards completion of post registration specialist competency portfolio.
