An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and enthusiastic Orthopaedic Technician to join our busy Trauma and Orthopaedics service at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. Working across both sites, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients attending fracture clinics, orthopaedic clinics, wards, theatres, Emergency Departments and paediatric services.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a highly experienced multidisciplinary team, providing specialist orthopaedic care to a diverse patient population. You will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive casting, splinting, bracing and orthotic service, including the application of both routine and complex casts and specialist techniques such as Ponseti casting and Total Contact Casting.

You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to support patients who may be experiencing anxiety, pain or distress following injury or trauma. You will also act as a role model within the department, supporting and guiding colleagues, contributing to service improvement initiatives, and maintaining the highest professional and clinical standards.

### Main duties of the job

As an autonomous practitioner, you will assess patient needs, plan and prioritise your workload effectively, and provide expert clinical advice and education to patients, families and carers. You will work closely with medical, nursing, therapy and orthotic teams to ensure patients receive safe, effective and compassionate care throughout their treatment journey.

The post holder will also undertake basic wound care procedures and the removal of K-wires, clips and sutures where appropriate.

To work as a Trained Orthopaedic Technicians within a team of technicians delivering a service to Trauma and Orthopaedics, A&E, UCC, Wards, Theatres and other departments across the Trust.  The postholder will provide direct and indirect care at a high level for patients in the Fracture/Orthopaedic/Paediatric Clinics, Wards/Theatres and other areas of the Trust.
