The Trust's in-house group legal services are recruiting a band 5 legal officer to join the team based at Barnet Hospital.

The legal officers are vitally important members of the department, and are key points of contact for the coroners' courts, the Trust's indemnity organisation (NHS Resolution) and external lawyers. They work closely with staff across the entire organisation, particularly senior managers , senior nurses and consultants.

The legal services team is very busy, juggling competing deadlines and pressures. We seek colleagues who can are willing to work as part of a team and who always aim to comply with the Trust's values.We are looking for candidates who are hard-working, professional, and can work to a high standard independently. The majority of communications with colleagues and external stakeholders are in writing, so applicants must have excellent written English. Written English will be tested.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for : Assisting the Head of Group Legal Services, Deputy Head of Group Legal Services and Group Legal Claims Manager (“senior legal team”) in their conduct of coroners’ inquest cases, including undertaking all preliminary investigations;

Assisting the Deputy Head of Group Legal Services in their conduct of all personal injury claims made against the Trust.

Supporting the senior legal team in the: provision of a high level and prompt legal advice service; preparation of High Court/Court of Protection Applications; conduct of clinical negligence claims.

The post holder will work closely with the quality governance, operational and corporate management teams and staff at all levels in the organisation and be required to work independently, under supervision and as part of a team.
