### Job summary

Join University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust as a Band 5 Financial Accounts Assistant and play a pivotal role in supporting vital NHS services. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of the Trust's salary sacrifice schemes, working at the heart of a busy and dynamic finance team. The post holder will manage the day-to-day administration, maintain registers, and resolve queries with payroll and external providers.

You will be responsible for reconciling complex control accounts, reviewing monthly invoices and deductions, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The role requires strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and confidence working with spreadsheets and finance systems.

Working within the Financial Accounts team, you will organise your own workload to meet strict reporting deadlines while building strong working relationships across the Trust. Hybrid working is available with a minimum of 3 office days per week at Regent Court, near Five Ways Island in central Birmingham.

This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their finance career within a large NHS organisation, contributing to high-quality financial processes that support healthcare delivery.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Experience of working with computerised financial systems.
- *Experience of analysing and reconciling complex data.
- *Experience of working independently and organising own workload.
- *Experience of communicating with non-financial members of staff.
- *Detailed understanding of interaction between balance sheet and I&E account.
- *Be able to understand and implement finance policies and internal control procedures and propose changes to practices for own area.
- *Be able to demonstrate a commitment to quality and customer focused service.

**Desirable**

- *Experience of working in a busy financial accounting environment
- *Knowledge of salary sacrifice schemes.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- *Five Grade GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (or A to C pre 2019 grading) including Maths and English.

**Desirable**

- *Educated to AAT or equivalent experience

### Additional Criteria

**Essential**

- *Numerate with strong analytical skills.
- *Proficient in the use of spreadsheets, databases and computerised ledger systems, requiring good keyboard skills. The ability to develop, create, interpret and maintain complex spreadsheets with speed and accuracy and manipulate financial data within them e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel Intermediate level.
- *Ability to assimilate and interpret complex data.
- *Ability to establish and maintain positive working relations.
- *Be proactive in seeking the resolution of queries.
- *Ability to adopt a flexible approach to meeting multiple tight deadlines.
- *Ability to clearly present financial information to Trust staff.
- *Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
- *Ability to plan, organise and achieve objectives/tasks set within specified time frames and co-ordinate the activities of other staff in the department when appropriate.
- *Be willing to learn new skills and develop knowledge; committed to own and others continuing personal and professional development.
