### Job summary

Join one of the UK's largest NHS Trusts and support the delivery of high-quality financial management. We are seeking a motivated Assistant Capital Accountant to join our Financial Accounts team.

In this varied role, you will support the monitoring and reporting of the Trust's capital programme. Responsibilities include producing monthly financial reports, posting journals, maintaining the capital asset register, and reconciling fixed assets to the general ledger. You will analyse capital expenditure, investigate variances, and prepare information for capital reporting and statutory accounts.

You will work closely with budget holders and finance colleagues, providing clear financial insights and ensuring projects remain on track. The role also supports financial planning, year-end processes, and ongoing improvements to systems and processes.

The ideal candidate will have finance experience, strong analytical skills, and be confident presenting complex financial information to non-finance staff. You should be highly organised, able to meet deadlines, and work independently and as part of a team.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Experience of working in Management Accounts
- *Good Understanding of financial accounting concepts and techniques.

**Desirable**

- *Experience preferably within the NHS or another large complex organisation, for long enough to have acquired a good working knowledge of the annual cycle from financial planning through to year end forecasting and preparation of year-end accounts.
- *Working Knowledge or an interest in NHS including understanding of key targets and the performance management framework.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- *Five Grade GCSE s at Grade 4 or above (or A to C pre 2019 grading) including Maths & English.

**Desirable**

- *Progression to CCAB Qualification or significant relevant experience

### Additional Criteria

**Essential**

- *Numerate with strong analytical skills.
- *Proficient in the use of spreadsheets, databases and computerised ledger systems, requiring good keyboard skills.
- *Good written and verbal communication skills.
- *Ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance staff.
- *Ability to interpret and present financial information in a meaningful way to aid decision making.
- *Ability to influence/negotiate with operational and clinical staff on contentious issues -- e.g. Cost Improvement Programmes.
- *Ability to prioritise workload and achieve tight deadlines.
- *Evidence of strong team working skills
- *Ability to use initiative to overcome problems.
- *Displays smart appearance and integrity.
- *Reliable, punctual, pro-active approach.
- *Ability to travel to fulfil the role, both between hospital sites and elsewhere, as required.
