### Job summary

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and well-motivated individuals to join our friendly team of pharmacy technicians who provide a range of pharmaceutical services in this busy acute hospital. Applicants must be registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council or due to register within six months. Hospital pharmacy experience is not essential but may be an advantage. This post will suit newly qualified Pharmacy Technicians.

This post offers in-service development training and the opportunity to gain valuable skills in a hospital environment. A requirement to participate in one late night per week, 1 in 7-12 weekends, and one bank holiday per year on a rotational basis will be necessary.

This role is open to ALL technicians including community-based technicians with NO hospital experience. This is an excellent opportunity to further your pharmacy career to break into the hospital sector.

The successful candidate will support the smooth running of the pharmacy dispensary ensuring that medication is supplied safely and accurately in a timely manner. You will be required to undertake a broad range of duties including dispensing, provide training and mentoring to junior staff members and carry out accuracy checking commitments if qualified to do so.

You will be part of an expanding team of highly professional and dedicated staff whose aim is to provide an excellent, patient focus service.

Band 4 pharmacy technician role involves;

*Dispensing for in and out-patients

*Stock control

*Reception and telephones duties

*Provide counselling to patients on how to take their medication and supply information as requested to improve patient's understanding of their treatment

*To perform a final accuracy, check on dispensed items against prescriptions and controlled drug requisitions

*Preparing discharge prescriptions, including blister packs

*Preparing controlled drug orders

*Topping up the emergency cupboard

*Supporting the training and supervision of pre-registration technicians and other support staff

*Team leading

*Participating in late nights, weekends and bank holidays

The required candidates must have excellent organisational and time management skills. Responsible for a variety of dispensary-based activities as well as team leading opportunities. Good attention to detail and be happy working flexibly within a team.

The required candidates will hold a nationally recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council or eligible to register within six months.

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Experience in Pharmacy pre-qualification
- *Experience of working in hospital or community pharmacy
- *Experience in patient counselling
- *Experience in audit
- *Understanding of pharmacy related computer systems
- *Understanding of Health and Safety at Work, manual handling and COSHH
- *Understanding of dispensing, stock control and supply systems and processes
- *Knowledge of drugs, side effects & where to find further information
- *Knowledge of safe and secure handling of medicines (SaSHM) requirements
- *Knowledge of stock control systems
- *Knowledge of code of practice/customer care
- *Understands the need for delivering a cost effective service and the required work practices to reduce waste

**Desirable**

- *Experience in staff training

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- *GCSEs -- Mathematics and English (Grade B/5) and four other subjects including Science (Grade C/4)
- Or
- *GCSEs: Mathematics, English and Science (Grade C/4 or equivalent) and two other GCSEs (Grade C/4) and successful achievement of the pharmacy service skills Level 2 NVQ qualification (or equivalent)
- Or
- *Three A levels, one of which is a relevant science subject and Mathematics B/5 (GCSE or equivalent)
- Or
- *Degree in science or humanities and Mathematics B/5 (GCSE or equivalent)
- *Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians
