### Job overview

The Clinical Coding Officer is responsible for meeting essential trust requirements for statutory information and financial flows through abstracting and analysing complex clinical information from patient’s records and translating this into coded format in line with National Standards. The job will involve working on all specialties. Other key  responsibilities include; dealing with enquires from all parts of the hospital and contributing towards the development of trainee clinical coders; acting as mentor to and assisting with training. The post holder will work as part of a team of experienced trained and trainee staff.

Translate tis into a coded format in line with National Clinical Coding standards, using ICD10 and OPCS4 classifications. Enter coded data in to appropriate computer systems. All queries and discrepancies to be clarified with clinical staff as necessary.

### Experience

- Significant experience as a trained clinical coder
- To have attended regular clinical coding training courses

- Previous background in other associated clerical/secretarial or nursing/paramedic positions

- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and Confidentiality law

### Education & Qualifications

**Essential**

- Educated to GCSE level including qualifications in English and Maths
- GCSE or equivalent in Human Biology
- Completed National Clinical Coding Standards
- Training in Anatomy & Physiology and medical terminology to national coding standards

**Desirable**

- AMPSAR
- ECDL or computer proficiency certificate
