Clinical Support Worker -- Metastatic Breast Care (Fixed Term/Secondment)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our well-established Specialist Breast Care Nursing Service at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

This post will primarily be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, working closely alongside our newly appointed Metastatic Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). This is a new role with funding secured for 18 months. Therefore the position is offered as a fixed-term contract or internal secondment opportunity. This is a full-time position.

Role Overview

The post holder will work as part of the Breast Care CNS team, supporting the Metastatic Breast CNS and collaborating closely with the wider oncology team. Our service is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

Key responsibilities will include:

*Supporting the delivery of holistic care through completion of Holistic Needs Assessments (HNAs)

*Communicating effectively with patients both face-to-face and via telephone, providing support and guidance and to promote a seamless patient journey

*Maintaining accurate patient tracking using databases to support pathway coordination

The ideal candidate will:

*Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills

*Have good IT skills to support database tracking and patient management

*Ideally have previous experience working with cancer patients (desirable but not essential)

Cancer Support Worker (Breast Care- Metastatic )

This role involves providing comprehensive support to patients living with metastatic breast cancer throughout all stages of their journey. This includes individuals undergoing active treatment, as well as those experiencing disease progression or requiring palliative care. The Cancer Support Worker (CSW) will work closely within a multidisciplinary team of Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) and oncologists to deliver patient-centred care across changing phases of illness.

Strong communication skills are essential. The CSW will be expected to interact confidently and sensitively with patients, including responding to patient queries and telephone calls regarding their condition, treatment, and progress.

Key Responsibilities

*Provide tailored support to those on a metastatic pathway.

*Liaise effectively with a wide range of professionals

*Monitor and track patient results, including blood tests and imaging, ensuring results are communicated to patients in a timely and sensitive manner.

*Contribute to continuity of care by supporting patients across transitions in their treatment and care pathways.

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- *Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- *Customer Care experience
- *Knowledge of patients needs when being treated / care for in a healthcare setting
- *Accurate data entry, typing and checking skills
- *Ability to produce letters / reports using Word and Excel
- *Understand own limitations and know where to seek advice and support.
- *Have an understanding of the physical and psychological needs of a patient
- *Knowledge of the elements of personalised care initiatives in cancer
- *Experience of using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- *Experience of using full range of IT systems and patient data systems
