### Job summary

We are seeking a Theatre Services Co-ordinator to join the Surgical Theatres team at Solihull Hospital. The role involves supporting the smooth running of theatre services and maintaining a safe, efficient environment for patients and staff. You will need strong organisational, communication, and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritise work, solve problems independently, and work effectively as part of a team.

You will work in operating theatres supporting surgeries in Colorectal, Urology, Breast, Plastics, and Ophthalmology. The role involves:

Assisting with patient transfers to theatre

Supporting theatre staff and working with housekeeping, decontamination, and portering teams

Monitoring stock and maintaining a tidy environment

Ensuring surgical equipment and instrument kits are available

Working flexibly across the department

### Main duties of the job

Theatre Service Co-Ordinator role is part of the wider theatre team that ensures the efficient, safe delivery of care across the theatre environment. The main duty of this role includes the support, planning and co-ordination of daily theatre lists. Duties also include:

The use of I.T systems to track usage of equipment, stock and accurate records of loan kits

Management of received surgical consumables, performing stock rotation escalating any issues to procurement and surgical teams

Communicating with medical representatives, companies, sterile support services and theatre teams to ensure equipment needs for the department are dealt with

Liaising with outside areas to ensure patients are transferred to theatres in a timely manner, ensuring documentation is completed before arrival into the theatre suite, including the collection of patients

To work collaboratively and flexibly in theatres as a theatre support worker when required

Handling of specimens adhering to local policies, ensuring all are labelled correctly

Involvement in the upkeep of the department reporting of any environmental issues or damage and provide a clean and safe environment for patients and colleagues

To become knowledgeable in the use of multiple theatre surgical devices including table attachments

Competence with the collection of blood products where required for elective and emergency procedures

Upkeep of mandatory skills to perform role

Organisation of equipment transfers between surgical sites

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Evidence of recent working in an acute hospital / relevant healthcare environment
- *Recent employment in a theatre setting in a hospital setting
- *Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (eg. Word, Excel and Outlook)
- *Experience of using IT systems
- *Experience in undertaking a range of physical observations and clinical skills relevant to the role
- *Evidence of, or ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles of team work and communication in a theatre environment
- *Can demonstrate understanding or the role , knowledge of care and care related procedures associated with the practice setting
- *Can demonstrate and understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children , young people and vulnerable adults and can relate this to the role

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- *Successful completion of Trust approved assessment process for Literacy and Numeracy at level 1 or Certificates for Maths / English ( E )
- *Care Certificate / NVQ 3 Health & Social Care or equivalent knowledge training and experience gained through working in a clinical practice setting ( E )
