This is an exciting time to be working at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, one of the biggest NHS Trusts in the UK, delivering care to more than 1.6 million people a year through our three main hospitals: Barnet, Chase Farm and Royal Free.

We are looking for dynamic individuals to join our team making medicines for patients internal and external to the trust including a large number of home-care patients. You will be involved in preparing a wide range of products and will rotate around the three areas of production gaining experience in a wide variety of manufacturing techniques.

GCSEs (Grade A – C) in Maths, English and Science are required, and previous experience of working in a pharmacy manufacturing environment would be beneficial.

### Main duties of the job

The post-holder is to assist with the provision and development of the Pharmacy Technical. Services department at the Royal Free Hospital rotating between each manufacturing area (Non-Sterile, Terminally Sterilised Batches, CIVAS and Chemotherapy). The prime function of the job is to prepare medicinal products either as batches or for individual patients against pre-prepared worksheets. The post-holder is required to work with his/her arms in isolators, Laminar Air Flow Cabinets (LAFCs) for long periods of time, with full concentration.

Overalls, gloves and masks are worn when processing. This role requires fine manipulation, so manual dexterity is essential, as is accuracy and attention to detail and good eyesight. The post-holder is expected to have knowledge of and work according to the principles of Good, Manufacturing Practice, in order to maintain the department’s Manufacturing “Specials” Licence.

They will be expected to help the Chief and Senior Technicians in the unit with the training of all new staff working in the unit and re-training of any staff who have been absent from working in that part of the rotation for a long time.

### Experience

- Previous experience of working in a drug manufacturing environment.

**Desirable**

- Previous experience of working in a hospital pharmacy production unit preparing aseptic products

**Essential**

- Ability to communicate information effectively using clear written and spoken English
- Basic numeracy skills – the ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Understanding of the importance to accurately follow written and oral instructions
- Demonstrated good manual dexterity to undertake fine and accurate manipulative work.
- Ability to identify small foreign particles in manufactured products requiring good eyesight.
- Understanding of the importance of hygiene standards in the preparation of medicines
- Competent in the use of basic office computer programs

**Desirable**

- Competent in the use of pharmacy manufacturing computer systems
- Understanding of the issues in handling materials which are hazardous

### Education & Qualifications

**Essential**

- GCSE Maths, English and Science – Grade A* to C (or equivalent)

**Desirable**

- NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 2 or Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) – relevant optional units or ability to study for these.
