### Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join team as an Audiology Assistant/Healthcare Scientist Apprentice.

This assistant role combines clinical support, patient care, and administrative responsibilities within a busy Audiology service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. You will undertake hearing aid and hearing implant repairs, prepare equipment for clinics, manage stock systems, and respond to patient enquiries. Working both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver compassionate, inclusive, and person-centred care.

Alongside, you will complete the Level 6 Healthcare Science Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship (Audiology). The apprenticeship combines academic study with supervised workplace training, supporting your development towards evolving independent clinical practice.

This full-time role is ideal for someone looking to build a career within a healthcare setting, while developing within a supportive environment through completion of a degree apprenticeship. ### Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Audiology Assistant Responsibilities:

* Carry out routine hearing aid repairs, including exchanging faulty devices, issuing batteries, and coordinating ear mould repairs with manufacturers.

* Advise patients and carers on the correct use, fitting, care, and maintenance of hearing aids and related equipment.

* Provide troubleshooting support and explain the operation of hearing aids and assistive devices.

* Support Hearing Implant services by preparing and dispatching replacement speech processors, downloading programmes to sound processors, processing fault reports, and coordinating repairs with cochlear implant manufacturers.

* Maintain accurate records and monitor the return of repaired or loaned equipment.

* Provide administrative support, including stock management.

* Prepare sound processors and appointment kits, including battery charging and equipment setup prior to clinics.

* Undertake reception duties as required, including greeting patients, managing enquiries, and responding to repair and spare part requests in person and by telephone.

* Build positive relationships with patients through effective communication, empathy, and strong deaf awareness skills.

Ensure patient records and journal entries are completed accurately and in line with local policies and procedures.

* Undertake additional duties as delegated by senior management

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- * Evidence of problem solving
- * Team working
- * Interest in and passionate about Audiological care

**Desirable**

- * Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- * Previous work in an Audiology department or setting
- * Experience of working with people who have hearing loss
- * Interest or knowledge of current NHS hearing aids.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- * GCSE: Maths and English (Grade 4 and above/Grade C or above) or equivalent
- * A-Levels: ABB in three A Level subjects which must include one science subject from Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics or Psychology
- * Applicants with previous qualifications in Audiology at Level 6 or Level 7 cannot be accepted onto the apprenticeship course
- * Candidates will also need to meet the Government's eligibility criteria for Apprenticeship programmes

**Desirable**

- * British Sign Language Qualification
- * NVQ in Care/Business Administration
- * Experience of working in the NHS in a patient/public facing role in healthcare
