Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to recruit an Apprentice Healthcare Assistant to join our dynamic Theatre Team. You will receive full training within Theatres and through our structured apprenticeship programme, with clear progression routes. We have 16 operating theatres across both hospital sites, covering a wide range of specialties including Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Vascular, ENT, Trauma, Gynaecology, Maxillofacial, Pain Management, and Obstetrics. This role includes working varied shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and nights.

Alongside the role you will complete the Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker – Theatre pathway apprenticeship. If you already hold a Healthcare qualification at Level 3 or above or have extensive experience working as a Healthcare Assistant, then you are not eligible to apply for this post.

To be eligible for an Apprenticeship you must meet the following criteria:

Be 18 years old or over

Have the right to work in the UK with a visa status that last for the duration of the apprenticeship programme

Have been permanently resident in the UK for the past 3 years

Assist in preparing patient notes, relevant charts, documentation, and identity bands prior to and upon admission. Provide support with essential non-clinical patient care duties, including assisting patients with meal selections, changing bed linen, and maintaining clean, safe, and clutter-free patient areas. Support patients with toileting, personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing needs while respecting their religious, cultural, and personal preferences, ensuring privacy, dignity, and comfort at all times.

- Excellent communication skills with all staff, patients, relatives and members of the general public including clear telephone manner

### Personal Qualities

- Able to work on own initiative in delivering patient care, following training and direction by a Registered Healthcare Practitioner.

### Experience/ Knowledge

- Awareness of health and safety at work. e.g: manual handling skills, infection control measures

- Good numeracy and literacy skills
