Band 2 MSW - Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

The role will include working shifts, days and nights including weekends and bank holidays. Shift timings are 0730-2000 or 1930-0800

- To assist the midwives and support the woman, her family and colleagues through all maternity services including adverse outcomes, i.e. stillbirth, miscarriage, following appropriate training.
- To ensure a safe clinical environment and high standard of personal care for women, their babies and their families in all clinical areas.
- To assist mothers in the maintenance of personal hygiene and physical comfort at all times.
- Participate in the activities necessary to ensure safe care is provided to women antenatal, at birth and postnatal, and demonstrate an ability to recognize obstetric or neonatal emergencies and respond appropriately, i.e. calling for emergency help, contacting, by phone, the emergency team.

### Main duties of the job

- Assist in the education of mothers and their partners with the demonstration of basic functions regarding care of their newborn infant, at the request of, and under the direct supervision of, the midwife.
- Carry out, and accurately record on a MEOW’s chart, maternal clinical measurements (Blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration rate, oxygen saturations, identifying blood loss/severity of pain and urinalysis) at the request of the midwife, following the relevant training.
- Carry out, and accurately record on a NEWTT chart, neonatal clinical measurements (heart rate, respiration rate and temperature) at the request of, and under the direct supervision of, the midwife.
- As part of the multi-disciplinary team, assist in the education and support of the mother and her partner with infant feeding, following the relevant training.
- Completion of the maternity support worker development programme – induction to the trust and care certification with appropriate training and support.

### Skills & Ability

**Essential**

- Ability to maintain a confidential approach to all aspects of role.
- Ability to organise and prioritise personal workload under supervision.

- Venepuncture
- Able to complete adult and/or neonatal observations

### Experience & Knowledge

**Essential**

- Recent/current experience in an acute healthcare setting within UK
- Recent/current experience of a clinical role

**Desirable**

- Experience in maternity care in hospital

### Training & Qualifications

**Essential**

- Good standard of general education in English language and math’s GCSE grades A-C
- Commitment to undertake local training and development to NVQ level.

**Desirable**

- Completion of care certificate
