An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the regional West of England Hearing Implant Team,  University Hospital Bristol and Weston Trust. The team is based within St Michael’s Hospital, Bristol.

We are a regional specialist service caring for severely hearing impaired adults and children across the South West of England.  We are looking for an enthusiastic  Audiology Support Worker / Administrative Assistant to join our team providing a comprehensive, efficient and effective administrative service and audiology & technical support to patients and team members for the regional West of England Hearing Implant Programme (WEHIP).

To liaise with patients and professionals, both within our multi-disciplinary team and from regional hospitals /centres, around the South West.

We are a small friendly, supportive and busy team who are passionate about our quality of service.

### Main duties of the job

- To provide support to the clinical and administrative staff within the Hearing Implant Team
- Manage patient communications via telephone, email and text messages
- To act as a point of contact for queries from patients, clinical and non-clinical staff and record all patient contact
- Provide information, support and troubleshooting advice to patients
- Distribute appropriate information to patients, carers and other professionals according to guidelines and timescales
- Reception duties
- To send out batteries and spares  and replacement speech processors as requested
- Complete and send equipment repair reports to implant manufacturers following protocols
- The post holder should be polite and empathetic to the patient’s needs and be able to communicate effectively  with hearing impaired patients
- To show a caring, professional approach towards patients, relatives and carers. This may require acting with resilience to deal with difficult situations/conversations
- Booking transport, interpreters  and creating face to face and virtual appointments  as necessary.
- To work closely with the Administrators, Co-ordinators and other members of the Hearing Implant Programme team to support the smooth running of the programme.
- Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the role’s line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate.
- Ensure all clerical activity is recorded accurately and timely on Trust's Patient management systems and the specialist Auditbase database

### Knowledge and Experience

**Essential**

- Clerical/administrative experience including reception
- Experience of dealing with the public, both on the telephone and in person

**Desirable**

- Experience of, or enthusiasm for, working with clients with hearing impairment
- Knowledge of data protection act and patient confidentiality
- Knowledge of cochlear implants and bone anchored hearing aids
- Previous NHS experience other healthcare based support
- Experience of using Patient Administration Systems

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths

**Desirable**

- Business and Administration Level 3 NVQ or equivalent experience
- Health & Social Care level 3 or equivalent experience
- A level or equivalent / higher qualification
