### Job overview

The Electronic Assistive Technology Service Wales (EAT) provides a holistic assessment, trials, long term loan and maintenance service that aims to enhance our patients’ independence, mobility and ability to communicate.  The EAT service is made up of four services, but to a large extent operates as a single entity with a common referral pathway, triage and treatment regimen. The Service is provided by a range of registered healthcare professionals that include Clinical Scientists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Technologists, supported by unregistered support staff e.g. Administrators, Technical Instructors and hopefully soon - by you as the Associate Clinical Technologist.

We are looking for a skilled Service Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for service and maintenance of issued EAT equipment, as well as for assessing and assembling of bespoke wheelchair mounting systems for the above equipment.

### Main duties of the job

This clinical technologist will perform work that is routine and planned, and whilst carrying out their duties will usually be able to call on the support of more senior colleagues.

The post holder will be responsible for the following:

To provide electronic assistive technology services, particularly with regard to the preparation, provision and maintenance, to meet the complex needs of severely impaired clients.

To assess the needs and develop, fabricate and evaluate specialist devices to meet the complex needs of severely impaired clients at the direction of a State Registered Clinical Scientist, and in collaboration with clinical specialists.

To support the EAT Technical and Clinical Staff by preparing EAT equipment and assist at installation appointments.

To deliver, repair, adjust, collect and recondition EAT equipment.

To carry out administrative functions to support the clinical and technical professionals, that will include necessary administration, acceptance checks, loading and unloading equipment, decontamination of equipment, resetting and reprogramming of EAT equipment, and checking the equipment prior to restocking.

To undertake visits to the homes of clients across Wales and will therefore need to hold a full driving license and be aware of lone worker issues. Transport will be provided or approved mileage will be paid where appropriate.

The post-holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing scientific, engineering and clinical services.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to adjust and modify computer settings.
- Ability to safely use a range of engineering tools, good practical abilities.
- Communication Skills

**Desirable**

- Provision of electronic assistive technology systems specified to meet clinical need.
- Database maintenance and development.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Relevant experience in servicing of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment
- A broad-based knowledge and use of electronic test equipment, tools and practice.
- Experienced in the use of computer database and management systems
- Direct contact with people on a daily basis.

**Desirable**

- Experience in applying technical and hand skills to equipment found in a similar area to that of healthcare

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- HND, BTEC National or equivalent technical Qualification Educated to GCSE level or adequate experience in similar role.

**Desirable**

- Electrical qualifications e.g. Portable Appliance Test (PAT) qualified
- Qualifications in practical skills.

### Special Knowledge

**Essential**

- Broad based knowledge of consumer electronic devices.
- Experience of using basic IT equipment
- Understanding of patient, carer and public risks arising from equipment failure.
- Understanding of and the ability to assimilate knowledge relating to appropriate legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines
- Understanding of hazards posed by, and precautions needed when working in different locations using a variety of engineering equipment: Electricity, Cross-infection, Bio-hazards, Workshop hazards.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of an Electronic Assistive Technology or related service.
- Disabling conditions and associated risks.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Installation / Issuing /H&S risk assessment relevant to electronic assistive technology systems.
