North London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a compassionate and delivery-focused Associate Clinical Director to join the leadership of its Community Care Group. ### Main duties of the job This combined post offers four protected PAs for a clearly delegated leadership portfolio and six PAs in a defined General Adult community psychiatry Consultant Psychiatrist Role. The clinical base may be in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield or Haringey, drawn from the Royal College of Psychiatrists Approved Jobs available at the time of recruitment. We will seek to match service need with the successful candidate’s expertise, interests and development goals. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities - Act as a visible and credible medical leader for a defined Community Care Group portfolio, translating Trust strategy into measurable improvements for service users, carers and staff. - Share responsibility for quality, safety, clinical governance, service performance, access, workforce and responsible use of resources, working through collective leadership. - Strengthen medical engagement, recruitment, retention, job planning, professional development and succession planning across the portfolio. - Sponsor service redesign and pathway improvement across borough, primary care, local authority, voluntary-sector and other Trust interfaces. - Use data, learning from incidents and service-user experience to identify variation, reduce inequalities and support reliable delivery. - Deputise for the Clinical Director within an agreed scope and contribute to Trust-wide medical leadership. - Provide high-quality consultant input and clinical leadership in the agreed General Adult community service. ### Applicant requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service. ## Person Specification ### Skills & Abilities **Essential** - Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change. - Ability to effectively communicate ideas and influence others. - Good knowledge of and ability to use both spoken and written English - Ability to organise workload and manage time and delegate responsibility where appropriate - Ability to practise as an independent Consultant Psychiatrist. - Thoroughness and attention to detail in clinical matters - Sensitivity to needs of all patients and carers. - Sensitivity and awareness in clients and staff from different cultures, ethnicities, gender and sexual orientations. - Teaching and supervision skills for undergraduate medical students, doctors in training and multi-professional staff - Ability to work in a team environment and to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multidisciplinary basis with all levels of staff. - Ability to take on the role and responsibilities of the clinical lead - Ability to provide visible senior medical leadership and to support delivery of quality, safety, performance and workforce objectives - Ability to manage complexity, competing priorities and sensitive professional issues with sound judgement and professionalism. - Experience in undertaking clinical audit, investigating serious incidents and handling complaints - Enthusiasm for pathology and willingness to share knowledge and experience **Desirable** - A special interest or willingness to develop one in an area which helps to meet the needs of the Trust - Experience in successfully delivering research projects ### Knowledge & Experience **Essential** - Knowledge and observance of the requirements and duties of a doctor laid down by the GMC in Good Medical Practice. - Clinical knowledge of the full range mental disorders. - Experience in the assessment of complex clinical cases involving severe and enduring mental illness and significant risk histories and the ability to assertively engage and manage such cases. - Expertise in a comprehensive range of evidence based treatment and case management options including pharmacotherapy. - Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding practices - Experience in work place based assessments of doctors in training - Knowledge of clinical commissioning and external organisations that interface with an NHS Trust. - Experience in organising and chairing meetings. - Experience in developing policies and protocols. - Evidence of clinical leadership beyond individual team level, including contribution to service improvement, pathway development, transformation or operational delivery. - Good understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, quality assurance, risk management and learning systems within NHS services. - Experience contributing to incident reviews, complaints, inquests, claims, serious incident learning or thematic reviews. - An understanding of the role of research within the wider service - Willingness to participate in research as appropriate and within the context of the duties of the post **Desirable** - Experience in teaching small and large groups - Evidence of translating learning from incidents, complaints, audit or QI into practical service improvement ### Education/Qualifications/Registration **Essential** - Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice.
