## Job Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Assistant Psychologist positions within Salford Acute Inpatient Mental Health Services for adults of working age (one position is available from October 2024 and one is available from December 2024). The successful applicants will work as part of the psychological service provision within the adult acute mental health wards and Psychiatric Intensive Care Units at Meadowbrook.

The post holder will assist with a wide range of duties  - assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation. Duties may include the development of psychologically informed resources. The post holder will also be expected to assist clinicians in the preparation, delivery and evaluation of a variety of clinical, training and research tasks. The post holder will act under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist and will receive regular supervision.

## Job Description

This role will involve, under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, completing biopsychosocial assessments and psychological formulations with service users and staff members. They will co-facilitate psychologically informed groups along with colleagues from other professional groups such as nursing and Occupational Therapy. The successful applicants will be involved in service development, evaluation and audit relating to the Psychology service. There will also be opportunity for co-facilitation of training to multidisciplinary colleagues.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
- An understanding of psychology applied to mental health care.
- Knowledge of engagement approaches and clinical assessment skills required for presentations typical of Acute Care settings.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of risk assessment and formulation
- Knowledge of legislation and good practice guidelines relevant to inpatient care

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working with people with mental health problems
- Experience of working under supervision and liaising with other healthcare workers

**Desirable**

- Experience of working with service users with complex, risky presentations
- Experience of working within an inpatient setting
- Experience of using assessment skills
- Experience of delivering psychologically informed interventions
- Experience of delivering training

### Skills and abilities

**Essential**

- High level of communication skills both written and verbal including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to service users, carers and colleagues in an appropriate way
- Ability to produce reports under supervision to a high standard
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to the service context
- An ability to communicate effectively with other members of the multidisciplinary team and wider stakeholders
- Ability to use IT programmes including Microsoft word, adobe and excel.

**Desirable**

- Ability to conduct biopsychosocial assessments with individuals with mental health difficulties
- Ability to use assessment information to develop psychologically informed formulations with individuals with mental health difficulties
- Ability to deliver training to non-psychology colleagues

### Training and Qualifications

**Essential**

- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

**Desirable**

- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
