Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated assistant physicist to join our team of nuclear medicine physicists within the Radiological Sciences Unit (RSU).

This post would suit a graduate with a physics background who is looking to gain initial experience in nuclear medicine whilst supporting our team to drive regulatory compliance and provide the best patient care.

Within the trust, the physics group supports a range of equipment across nuclear medicine and PET/CT including SPECT/CT systems, PET/CT systems, gamma counting equipment, dose calibrators and interoperative probes.

There is a comprehensive molecular radiotherapy service including I-131 for benign thyroid conditions, Y-90 Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) and Lu-177 Dotatate for the treatment of neuroendocrine tumours. We are also involved in the delivery of several novel therapeutic tracers for research purposes.

The post is within the Radiological Sciences Unit (RSU) offering an environment in which there is a wide experience of Imaging Physics. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is the UK’s first Academic Health Science Centre.

### Main duties of the job

- Assist with the organisation, preparation and delivery of molecular radionuclide therapies
- Communicate with patients to organise molecular radionuclide therapies
- To monitor and decontaminate rooms following their use by patients who have received treatment with unsealed sources
- Assist in data analysis, particularly taking personal responsibility for ensuring that all data collected is accurate
- Store and retrieve measured data
- Perform initial analysis and judgement on data to ensure that it follows expected trends. For example, this may involve entering data in spreadsheets, plotting graphs and comparing results.
- Assist with the processing of data from one computer format to another
- Enter data in a variety of computer systems
- Assist physicists performing routine complex QA on nuclear medicine equipment. This may involve helping collection, assembly and set up of equipment and performing routine tasks under supervision.
- Assist in routine care and checks of all equipment in use in the department, including appropriate storage.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Diligence and attention to detail commensurate with clinical nature of systems to be supported
- Ability to deal with occasional distressing circumstances. (The work involves contact with patients with cancer).
- Ability to maintain clarity of purpose in a clinical environment within which there is constant emotional pressure.
- Able to keep accurate scientific records and to complete appropriate clinical records.

### Education

**Essential**

- BSc in a Science or Engineering Discipline or equivalent
- Maths and Physics A level or equivalent

### Experience

**Essential**

- Project work involving extensive measurement and analysis of data
- Ability to perform routine measurements on imaging and contamination monitoring equipment with guidance where required
- Advanced knowledge of WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT, etc. for scientific report writing, preparation of presentations and program/spreadsheet development.

**Desirable**

- Previous experience of the healthcare environment
- Previous experience working within nuclear medicine, PET/CT, molecular radionuclide therapies and/or radiation protection
