Band 5 £32,073 - £39,043 Per annum

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We are looking for a motivated, detail-focused Assistant Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. This role would suit someone with an interest in NHS capital and charity accounting who is keen to develop their skills in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities Assist in the timely and accurate production of monthly and annual capital accounts to include: - Recording capital transactions accurately. - Monthly processing of depreciation, amortisation and Accruals in line with Trust policy. - The capitalisation of assets onto the fixed asset registers, in accordance with Trust policy. - Assist the Capital Analyst in producing the annual accounts, supported by clear working papers. - Review and approve charitable fund spend requests in line with policy and fund restrictions. - Complete charitable funds recharges and support the month-end close-down process - Assist the Financial Accountant in preparing the annual charity accounts, including supporting the production of the audit file for external audit.

What We’re Looking For

- Workings towards AAT qualification or a relevant finance qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA). - Experience in a finance or accounting environment, ideally within the NHS or public sector. - Good working knowledge of Excel and financial systems.

- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills. - A team player with good communication skills and a willingness to learn.

To assist the Capital analyst in providing the capital accounting required to ensure that the trust accurately records its capital assets and adheres to capital accounting policies outlined under IFRS and by Monitor and the Department of Health.

To provide capital accounting to support the Senior Capital Accountant in meeting, NHSE and DHSC requests for interim and year end accounts submissions.

Provide support in charity accounting requirements to ensure compliance with relevant NHS and regulatory guidelines.

**Essential**

- Excellent planning and Organisational skills with ability to work to tight deadlines, under pressure, agreeing priorities where necessary.
- Ability to work without direct supervision and direction whilst adhering to Trust Policies and guidelines
- Able to demonstrate attention to detail.
- Ability to analyse and interpret financial data and prepare financial summaries.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Detail knowledge and understanding of accounting procedures, bookkeeping, and financial systems
- Experience of working with and manipulating large volumes of data.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office IT packages including Excel and Word
- Experience of working within finance controls and procedures.
- Experienced user of computerised Financial and capital accounting and reporting systems, in particular RAM, Oracle R12 and Business Intelligence
- Experience of working to tight deadlines and under pressure

### Qualifications and knowledge

**Essential**

- Good basic education to A-level standard (including GCSE Maths and English).
- Experience of working within a finance role in a large organisation
- AAT technician level or equivalent qualification or experience.

**Desirable**

- Working towards Professional CCAB Accountancy qualification
