### Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Cardiographer in Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join the Diagnostic Cardiac Unit (Cardiology) at City Campus, Hucknall Road, Nottingham. You will be responsible for providing technical support to Cardiac Physiologists while working alongside Assistant Technical Officers and the administration team. You will support the processing of electronic referrals from NUH specialties and GP practices, use Trust IT systems to retrieve patient diagnostic referrals, and liaise with clinicians, physiologists, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to coordinate and organise patient tests. You will also be responsible for performing routine cardiac diagnostic tests, supporting the management of cardiac diagnostic waiting times and assisting with the booking process to ensure patients receive timely and efficient care.

### Main duties of the job

As an Assistant Cardiographer, you will be responsible for supporting the smooth running of the Cardiac Department and working across both City and Queens Campus when required. You will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date Basic Life Support skills to recognise and respond appropriately to immediate emergency situations, as well as attending relevant training and updates associated with the post. You will liaise with the Technical Manager and Line Managers on all aspects of the service, help promote the reputation of the department and uphold Trust policies and procedures. You will also undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required to support the effective operation of the service.

### Job responsibilities

To maintain strict patient confidentiality when handling sensitive information, ensuring information is managed appropriately during face-to-face interactions, telephone conversations and while dealing with patient records.

To provide clear explanations of test procedures to adult and paediatric patients, using reassurance and appropriate interpersonal skills to help reduce fear and gain the patients cooperation during examinations.

To demonstrate diplomacy, tact and professionalism when dealing with challenging or difficult patient situations, ensuring interactions are handled sensitively and appropriately both in person and over the telephone.

To demonstrate appropriate manual dexterity and manual handling skills when assisting patients with mobility needs, including supporting patients who use wheelchairs while maintaining their safety and dignity.

To maintain a high level of concentration when processing diagnostic tests and undertaking detailed tasks, particularly where accuracy and sustained attention are required.

To manage multiple and sometimes urgent requests effectively, using personal initiative to prioritise workloads and make appropriate decisions when working independently, while also contributing effectively when support from colleagues is required.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- 4 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths.
- Experience performing ECGs independently.
- Knowledge of ECG interpretation at a moderate level.
- Experience with ambulatory monitoring and fitting.
- Previous experience in a similar cardiology role.
