This is an exciting time to join our Arts Psychotherapies service in Tower Hamlets as we continue to develop and strengthen our inpatient provision. Located within one of London’s most diverse boroughs, our services work closely with local communities to provide accessible, inclusive and culturally responsive care.

We are seeking a motivated Band 6 Arts Psychotherapists (Art, Music, Drama or Dance Movement) to work with adults with complex mental health need across our adult acute and PICU wards based at Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health, Mile End Hospital. The roles involve delivering individual and group interventions, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, and contributing to ongoing service development and improving access to Arts Psychotherapies.

### Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide Arts Therapy assessment and intervention (individual and group) for adults with complex and acute mental health needs within inpatient services. This includes managing a caseload, delivering recovery-focused interventions, and supporting service users through periods of crisis and stabilisation.

You will work as part of the ward multidisciplinary team, contributing to care planning, risk assessment, ward rounds and discharge planning, while maintaining clear and timely clinical documentation.

The role requires creating and maintaining a safe, containing therapeutic environment on the ward, facilitating engagement in group work, and adapting interventions to meet the diverse cultural and clinical needs of the inpatient population

The postholder will also contribute to service development, quality improvement and collaborative working to support effective care pathways and positive patient experience

The postholder will provide a specialist Arts Therapies service within adult inpatient mental health services, including assessment and delivery of individual and group interventions for people with complex and acute mental health needs. They will manage a defined caseload, working under the supervision of a senior Arts Therapist, and contribute to recovery-focused care planning, review and discharge planning.

The role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team within the inpatient setting, contributing to ward rounds, clinical meetings, risk assessment and care coordination. The postholder will communicate complex and sensitive clinical information clearly and appropriately to service users, carers and colleagues, and maintain accurate and timely clinical records.

The postholder will develop and maintain a safe, containing and therapeutic environment, including facilitating group work on the ward and responding to the challenges of an acute setting. They will apply specialist skills to support service users in managing distress, engaging in treatment and working through complex emotional experiences.

They will be expected to adapt their practice to meet the diverse cultural and clinical needs of the inpatient population, promoting inclusive and anti-discriminatory practice in line with Trust values.

The role also includes contributing to service development, audit, quality improvement and evaluation activities, and working collaboratively with colleagues to support positive patient experiences and pathways through care.

The postholder will maintain professional registration, engage in regular supervision and continuing professional development, and adhere to Trust policies, governance and safeguarding requirements

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working as part of an MDT
- - Experience of providing individual and group arts therapy in an adult MH inpatient setting

### Knowledge and skills

**Essential**

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Developed interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic relationships to be developed and maintained with clients who have complex needs
- Ability to apply specialist skills in individual and group based assessments and interventions.
- Ability to work both independently and a part of a MDT team
- Ability to assess and manage frequent distressing clinical interactions with client’s who have complex mental health problems

### To have knowlegde and skills of

**Essential**

- How mental health difficulties impact upon an individual’s and carer’s functioning
- The theory and practice of recovery focused therapy approaches
- The mental health support needs of Adults in Acute MH settings

### Education/Training/Qualifications

**Essential**

- Masters Degree in Arts Therapies (Art, Music, Drama, Dance Movement)
- Degree in relevant area
- Registration with HCPC
- Membership of professional body

**Desirable**

- Experience working with adults inpatient services
- Experience of working as an Arts Therapist in the NHS
