We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Arrhythmia Specialist Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team at University Hospital Plymouth.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients living with arrhythmias

You will be providing specialist advice, education and support to patients, carers, and other healthcare professionals.

You will be required to use advanced specialist skills and knowledge to undertake full assessments of patients , leading to safe decision making and implementation of management plans, providing effective, evidenced based treatment.

You be supported to become an autonomous practitioner helping support admission avoidance by curating individualised management plans for patients with arrhythmias , working collaboratively with medical colleagues.

We are a pro-active and innovative multidisciplinary team, working with our cardiology colleagues in the hospital to provide the best outcomes for our patients.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

### Main duties of the job

- Provide specialist nursing care to patients with arrythmia
- Undertake clinical assessments and develop personalised plans of care.
- Undertake cardioversion clinics with support of anaesthetic team
- Manage a clinical caseload of patients with support from consultant colleagues and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
- Support patients in self-management and improving quality of life.
- Contribute to arrythmia care service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Deliver education and training to other healthcare staff across the Trust.
- Work closely with other member of the team cardiologists, GPs, pharmacists, and wider multidisciplinary teams. Escalating concerns to appropriate medical teams, acting as patients' advocate and operate in the patient's best interest.
- To provide an effective line of communication for patients and carers including telephone support.
- Referral of patients to appropriate health and social care partners.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Band 6 Arrhythmia Specialist Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based specialist nursing care to patients with cardiac rhythm disorders mainly across outpatient settings. Working as part of the multidisciplinary Electrophysiology (EP) and Cardiology team, the post holder will assess, investigate, manage and support patients throughout their arrhythmia care pathway while promoting patient-centred care and service excellence.

Main Responsibilities

- Undertake comprehensive clinical assessment of patients presenting with cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, and other common arrhythmias or inherited cardiac conditions.
- Manage an allocated caseload of patients under the supervision of Consultant Electrophysiologists, providing ongoing assessment, follow-up and coordination of care.
- Deliver nurse-led arrhythmia clinics in accordance with local and national guidelines.
- Triage and prioritise referrals to the Arrhythmia Service, ensuring timely assessment and appropriate management.
- Coordinate and undertake pre-assessment, procedural support and follow-up for elective direct current cardioversion (DCCV).
- Provide specialist counselling and education to patients undergoing catheter ablation, including pre-procedure preparation and post-procedure follow-up.
- Participate in inherited cardiac conditions (ICC) services and assist with specialist investigations, including Ajmaline provocation testing.
- Interpret ECGs, ambulatory monitoring and other cardiac investigations, escalating abnormal findings appropriately.
- Monitor patients receiving antiarrhythmic medications and anticoagulation therapy, identifying potential adverse effects and escalating concerns in accordance with agreed protocols.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- First Level NMC Registered Nurse

**Desirable**

- University accredited ECG analysis and interpretation course or equivalent

### Atitude & Abilities

**Essential**

- Proven ability to work independently
- Proven ability to work autonomously or as a member of a team, as well as part of the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to initiate changes in practice
- Advanced analytical and judgmental skills.

### Knowledge and Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrable post-registration experience, with nursing or cardiac physiology qualifications, and demonstrable experience in a senior role.
- Demonstrable experience in cardiology and management of Cardiology patients.
- Experience managing patients with atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, SVT and other cardiac arrhythmias

**Desirable**

- Demonstrable experience of providing counselling to patients and support staff.
- Knowledge of the NSF for CHD and relevant NICE guidance
- Current teaching Demonstrable experience
