An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the respiratory lab at Aintree University hospitals; the position is for an apprentioce associate practitioner in respiratory physiology.

The respiratory lab is one of the biggest and well equipped laboratories in the north west and performs a wide range of respiratory physiology investigations taking referrals from the trust, the local CCG and other secondary hospitals within Merseyside.  The respiratory physiology team also actively contributes to a significant number of research projects and clinical trials.

The lab is a friendly dedicated team; with excellent scope for progression should the post holder wish to be developed further. The post will be to provide support to the senior respiratory physiologists in performing but not limited to: Spirometry, Reversibility, Lung volumes and TLCO. The post holder would also be expected to provide assistance for CPET both diagnostic and pre-op and to run independently spirometry clinics at local health centres.

This opportunity would be ideally suited to a person who has completed or is undergoing the associate practitioner course or foundation degree in healthcare science. They should also be registered with the ARTP as an approved spirometry practitioner.

To attend university as required to become a AHCS registered  associate practitioner.

The postholder will be performing full studies unsupervised within the main respiratory lab here at Liverpool University Hospitals, Aintree Site.

They will also be performing spirometry at various locations around North Merseyside.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Actively participate in a range of clinical physiology service provision either in performing direct duties or supervised if required.

Works independently on direct patient care within departmental and national guidelines

Performance of spirometry in unsupervised areas.

Assists within CPET area with set up and exercise test.

Is required to perform reversibility testing unsupervised..

Uses the Respiratory Lab sterilisationand cleaning SOP.

Under direct supervision assists with the airway challenges.

BLS Trained

Performs unsupervised full studies.

Works on shift system and unsocial hours as necessary.

Lead, teach organise the ATO’s in the department and supervise their performance and shifts. 12 Contribute to the evaluation, selection and introduction of new equipment and technology.

Assists in the ordering/stock control and receipt of consumable items used in clinical physiology

Responsible for the safe use of respiratory function equipment

Liaise with Senior Clinical Physiologist to maintain appropriate level of resources

Recognise and confirm accuracy of reported equipment faults and ensure details are documented and appropriate steps taken for their correction.

Ensure clean and tidy procedure environments are maintained.

Assist as appropriate in the motivation of staff to ensure completion of individual and overall workloads.

Assist with maintenance of local risk management policies.

Understands CVIS/IPM/Ascent and other Respiratory Information systems and their application within Respiratory  Physiology.

Comply with Trust and local policies.

- Foundation degree in Health Care Science, recognized by AHCS.

- GCSE in Maths, English and Science Grade C or above or equivalent
