This post is based within the Stroke service and Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team in Wolverhampton and offers an excellent opportunity to work within a compassionate and psychologically informed multidisciplinary rehabilitation pathway. The successful applicant will provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for people affected by stroke and other neurological conditions with neurological rehabilitation needs, supporting patients and families across different stages of recovery and adjustment.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support individuals and families through complex emotional adjustment, rehabilitation, changes in identity and functioning, cognitive difficulties, and long-term adaptation following stroke and neurological conditions within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

The service provides psychological input across the entire stroke care pathway and is based at West Park Rehabilitation Hospital. The role involves working across the Stroke Rehabilitation Ward, Early Supported Discharge (ESD) and Outpatient Therapy Services, Community Stroke Specialists, and consultation into the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) at New Cross Hospital for complex cases. There will also be opportunity to work with the community neurological rehabilitation team.

The role offers opportunities to work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues across inpatient, outpatient, and community rehabilitation settings, contributing psychological perspectives within MDT meetings and supporting psychologically informed care across the pathway. Psychology is highly valued within the stroke and rehabilitation MDTs, with psychologists contributing through direct clinical work, joint interventions, consultation, reflective practice, staff support, teaching, and service development.

You will work alongside a Principal Psychologist and other applied psychologists, with support from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist within a robust leadership, supervision, and operational management structure. As part of a large and well-established network of Psychological Professionals working across physical health services, the post holder will benefit from strong professional support and access to supervision.

- Accountable for own professional practice in the delivery of highly specialist psychological care to clients with highly complex mental health or learning disabilities which may include challenging behaviours.

- To be compassionate in meeting the needs of clients, their carers and families.

- To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health or learning disabilities.

- To promote at all times a positive image of the service and the wider Trust.

- In line with the banding of the post and its service context to:

- Exercise supervisory/professional responsibility for other psychological therapists
- Provide leadership in multi-disciplinary training and development
- Provide leadership in service audit and development
- provide leadership in service evaluation and research
- Ensure that a psychological perspective is brought to service redesign and cultural change

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- - Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings.

### Education & Qualifications

**Essential**

- - Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied Psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- - HCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist with Chartered Status
- - Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
