NUH Life is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Andrology Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary NHS fertility team. This post is designed to develop specialist expertise in all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic andrology and is best suited to candidates seeking a long-term career in Male Fertility.

This is far more than a routine diagnostic laboratory role. Alongside semen analysis, you will gain experience in sperm preparation techniques, male fertility preservation and sperm donor banking - helping patients at some of the most important moments in their lives.

Exact hours of work are to be negotiated but please note we operate primarily Mon-Friday. However some weekend/out of hours work will be required on a rotation basis. Candidates must live or be planning to relocate within 45mins of the Queen’s Medical Centre, have a full driving license and access to a vehicle in order to fulfil on call duties.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Practical experience in an Andrology or Reproductive Science laboratory
- Demonstrable commitment and interest in diagnosis and treatment of male infertility

**Desirable**

- Experience of patient and donor sample cryopreservation
- Experience working in a HFEA licensed centre

### Physical Skills

**Essential**

- Physical ability to move large/heavy nitrogen cylinders and withstand working at very low temperature for short periods of time with appropriate PPE.
- Manual dexterity and technical skills associated with the discipline, e.g. use of microscopes, centrifuges, pipettes, cryofreezers

**Desirable**

- Experience of handling of liquid nitrogen, filling and operation of nitrogen refrigerators

### Role related requirements

**Essential**

- Willing to work unsocial hours as and when required
- Full driving licence and access to vehicle whilst on call

### Training and Qualifications

**Essential**

- Minimum 2:1 in BSc in a relevant Biological Science

**Desirable**

- MSc in Reproductive Science
- ABA certificate (module 1) or equivalent ARCS training module

### Analytical and Judgement skills

**Essential**

- Competent in basic laboratory/technical skills (use of microscopes, pipettes and centrifuges)
- Practical experience of semen analysis and sperm preparation methods
- Understanding of current regulation including HFEA’s code of practice

**Desirable**

- Knowledge and understanding of quality management within a laboratory setting

### Planning and Organisational Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to prioritise conflicting workloads and meet set deadlines
- Punctual

### Communication and Relationship skills

**Essential**

- Excellent written and spoken English in order to convey complex information to patients, relatives, staff and colleagues
- Able to demonstrate understanding and empathy for all patients requiring our services

**Desirable**

- Evidence of Patient/Client contact
