### Job responsibilities

Responsibilities of this job role

- To receive, identify and securely manage deceased persons, ensuring appropriate storage, traceability and controlled release in line with departmental procedures. Maintain comprehensive documentation relating to personal belongings, valuables, case records and associated statutory paperwork.
- To prepare and assist with post-mortem examinations, following instructions from pathologists and applying appropriate precautions when dealing with complex cases or potential infection risks. Undertake dissection, evisceration, suturing, reconstruction and specimen collection while maintaining the dignity of the deceased.
- To obtain, handle and transfer specimens appropriately, ensuring samples are correctly identified, stored and transported for examination in accordance with relevant safety and handling requirements. Support the collection of material for approved research, surveys and other authorised purposes.
- To support the development of mortuary personnel, assisting with the supervision, training and assessment of trainee and junior Anatomical Pathology Technicians. Promote consistent working practices and help ensure staff understand and follow departmental procedures.
- To assist with the coordination of mortuary resources and operational cover, contributing to staff rotas and supporting deployment across relevant locations as required. Participate in the out-of-hours on-call service, working alongside appropriate professional and statutory bodies when necessary.
- To maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including clinical teams, relatives, funeral directors, police and other professionals involved in the care and release of the deceased. Support the maintenance of appropriate facilities, equipment, supplies and viewing areas to ensure a well-organised and respectful environment.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- To be successful in applying for this role you will need:
- Anatomical Pathology Technology degree, diploma, certificate, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum four years experience in a public or hospital mortuary.
- Strong manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, computer literacy and data-handling skills.
- Knowledge of HTA requirements, health and safety, NHS values and religious considerations surrounding death.
