### Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Pharmacist Emergency Medicine at West Hertfordshire Hospital NHS Trust to join the Pharmacy Department at Watford General Hospital. You will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of Pre-registration Pharmacists, Band 6 Pharmacists, Clinical Technicians, Assistants, and undergraduate Pharmacy students within the department. You will support the efficient utilisation of pharmacy staff across your area of rotation, ensuring smooth service delivery, and actively contribute to departmental Clinical Governance meetings to maintain high standards of practice and continuous service improvement.

### Main duties of the job

As an Advanced Pharmacist Emergency Medicine, you will be responsible for assisting the Lead Pharmacist in the provision and ongoing development of clinical pharmacy services across wards at the Watford site and wider Trust. You will be managing and supporting a patient-focused clinical pharmacy service, ensuring therapeutic goals are met for both patients and prescribers. You will also be responsible for monitoring prescriptions to ensure safe, cost-effective, and evidence-based prescribing, while actively promoting adherence to the Trust formulary.

### Job responsibilities

- To provide complex medicines information to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals, ensuring advice on dosing, side effects, and indications is clear, accurate, and tailored to the recipients level of understanding.
- To act as a role model in training and education, supporting the development of pharmacists, technicians, assistants, and other healthcare staff, while promoting and facilitating Continuing Professional Development across the department.
- To contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and protocols, supporting the preparation of reports for healthcare committees and ensuring best practice in medicines use across the Trust.
- To ensure safe medicines management practices, including reporting drug errors, undertaking controlled drug checks, complying with legal and regulatory requirements, and adhering to professional and Trust policies.
- To support audit and research activities, identifying opportunities for pharmacy practice improvement, monitoring adherence to prescribing guidelines, and contributing to evidence-based enhancements in patient care.
- To collaborate with multidisciplinary and primary care teams, communicating key information regarding medicines, treatment plans, and follow-up to ensure continuity of care across hospital and community settings.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- HCPC registered Pharmacist.
- Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in clinical pharmacy services, medicines reconciliation, counselling, and screening drug charts/TTAs.
- System knowledge: Ascribe, Cerner EPR; experience providing advice and clinical interventions to doctors and nurses.
- Experience training pharmacy staff and delivering high-quality, cost-effective care.
