An opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Advanced Occupational Therapist to co-lead the Acute Medicine Team at the University Hospital of North Midlands, based at Royal Stoke University Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist ready to step into this advanced role, who can embrace the challenges and opportunities of working in an acute trust environment. This is a 12-month secondment to cover maternity leave.

The acute medicine therapies team works across a wide range of specialities including cardiology, endocrinology and gastroenterology. We cover 7 wards, facilitating discharge planning and providing rehabilitative care.

### Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic team member who has a specialist interest in acute medicine. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 4 years’ NHS experience and ideally will also have previous experience working across medicine and the acute sector.

As an advanced occupational therapist, the successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical leadership, service development and education to the team, comprising of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and technical instructors. They will have a leading role in our student education and will also be able to foster good links and working relationships with the wider multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop innovative ways of working and consolidate their leadership and management skills as well as overseeing the implementation of clinical audit recommendations and facilitation of service development.

Therapy Services work within a 7-day shift system therefore the post holder will be required to work weekends and bank holidays.

Supervision will be provided by Principal Therapists and continuous development is supported through appraisal, internal training and external learning.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Post graduate NHS experience
- Experience of working as a senior Occupational therapist within the speciality area
- Experience of teaching students, staff & other professional groups
- Demonstrate experience of complex discharge planning

**Desirable**

- Experience of leading a multidisciplinary team
- Involvement in audit/research
- Demonstrate ability to assess physical and cognitive impairments

### Education & Qualifications

**Essential**

- Degree/ Diploma in Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy
- Registered with HCPC
- Evidence of personal & professional development relevant to role

**Desirable**

- Working towards a higher qualification qualification relevant to speciality e.g. Master's degree

### Skills, ability & knowledge

**Essential**

- Ability to work as part of a team
- Proven leadership and management skills

**Desirable**

- Evidence of project work
